What can I expect to do in this role?

You will:

  • provide resolution of technology problem areas, taking corrective action by initiating software changes, adjusting or replacing telecommunication devices and coordinating to resolve software/hardware problems
  • notify senior management according to the severity of the outages to avert reduced patient care and additional expenses
  • develop, program, implement, report and monitor system to track integrated voice, data and radio system and equipment performance, ensuring the ongoing operation of ambulance communications through the provision of training for the dispatch managers and supervisors
  • participate in the planning of the system design, planning and conducting detailed studies by analyzing requirements into a functional technical specification
  • provide effective system change control through review of proposed changes to the systems identifying potential impacts to the dispatch centres and services and recommend appropriate action


How do I qualify?


Mandatory

  • You have a valid class G’ driver’s licence with the ability to travel within the province frequently.


Telecommunications Knowledge

  • you have knowledge of and experience in electronics technology including knowledge and experience in applying theories, principles and practices of voice, data, radio and satellite telecommunications
  • you have demonstrated knowledge and experience of integrated voice and data switching systems, computer data communications architecture and radio trunking system design
  • you have knowledge of structural and mechanical engineering related to communication towers and equipment buildings
  • you demonstrate knowledge of DOC regulations and spectrum usage and management
  • you have the ability to use basic radio frequency test equipment (e.g. wattmeter, voltmeter, systems monitor or analyzer)


Technical Skills

  • you have the ability to read, write and modify computer programs in various languages
  • you are familiar with basic real estate information related to rules, approvals, boards in order to facilitate obtaining property for antenna sites


Project Management Skills

  • you have demonstrated project management skills


Communication and Analytical Skills

  • your oral and written communication skills enable you to deal effectively with staff, ambulance service staff, vendors and other government agencies
  • you have the ability to establish effective working relationships
  • you have analytical skills to conduct feasibility studies, analyze results and make cost benefit analysis

Note: the successful candidate will be required to obtain basic CPR Certification, first aid, and radio operation
