Job Overview:
SoCal Gas is looking for an individual with extensive experience in Telecommunications to support our efforts within our IT/OT Network Operations group. We are in search of someone who is mechanically inclined and tool-oriented and demonstrates a broad knowledge of FCC rules and regulations. With pay starting at $50.60 / hr. we are offering comprehensive training to become a safe and efficient Telecommunications Technician; skills that will prepare you for a career with SoCal Gas. Position Objective:
Performs skilled jobs involving the installation, analysis, repair and maintenance of the Company communication systems.
Job Duties include and Responsibilities:
Performs all types of skilled maintenance and repair work, using a working knowledge of electrical, electronic and digital theory, including diagnosis lay out, installation, adjustment and maintenance of switching equipment, telephone, cabling systems mobile and fixed radio equipment, microwave equipment, data modems, multiplexes and data cabling.
Works from oral and written instructions, blueprints, wiring diagrams, specifications and previous experience to repair and maintain communications equipment.
Uses tools and a variety of specialized test equipment, such as: voltmeters, oscilloscopes, data receiver, tone generator and monitoring equipment to maintain and repair a variety of communication equipment.
Troubleshoots malfunctions related to the communication systems. Traces circuits, locates and isolates trouble and makes repairs to restore and return equipment to service.
Tests Telephone Company-provided lines and interfaces with vendors and other utilities to determine if problem lies in Company or Telephone Company equipment. Identifies and facilitates repairs involving multi-vendor communication problems.
Works on electrical circuits and power supplies (110 to 240 volts) and analyzes difficulties, locates trouble and makes repairs. Works from various heights that can exceed 60 feet.
Maintains records of communication equipment, such as trouble orders, repair history, FCC logs and reports, equipment returns and cable records. Completes required repairs or documents for Company and/or Regulatory agencies.
Maintains records of distribution wiring fixtures when making or changing connections, marking equipment, and updates on-site records.
Completes all documents to report work performed and approximately accounts for time and materials on each assignment.
Performs various data network analysis base on working knowledge of Ethernet network infrastructure through use of network analyzer to trouble layer 1 – 7 of the OSI model.
Is responsible for completing work and for operating Company vehicle in a safe manner.
Performs other equivalent or lower grade functions.
Contacts:
Frequent contact with Headquarters, Technical Services, Transmission and Information Systems personnel is necessary to schedule work, coordinate moves, installations and to perform routine maintenance or emergency repairs.
Occasionally contacts vendors, contractors and/or other utilities to obtain technical information, installs monitoring equipment, test equipment, or to resolve interface problems associated with the Company’s communications equipment.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid California class C driver’s license.
- Must have a working knowledge of applied electrical, electronic and digital theory including vacuum tubes and solid state
- AM & FM radio theory and application
- Minimum of two years experience in vendor field of service-related to telephone, data communication or radio system
- Successful completion of equivalent curriculum in one of these fields at an accredited trade school or acquired through the Military.
- Must be able to read and interpret schematics drawings and manuals.
- Must be able to work on-call assignments.
- Basic math.
- Must pass a pre-qualification examination: Advanced Mechanical Test Battery – Technical/Specialist. Physical Abilities test requires: Level B. Must pass a Structured Interview; Red Battery Test.
Desired Qualifications:
- FCC general license and/or NABER certification.
- Knowledge of computer hardware, software, FCC rules and regulations, FCC general radio-telephone license.
- Good oral and written communication skills
