VFI is certified by the Department of Veterans Affairs as a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB).
VFI seeks an experienced, professional Telecommunications Technician III to install structured cabling, infrastructure, and equipment at Red River Army Depot in Texarkana/New Boston, Texas. The Telecommunications Technician III reports to the Telecommunications Technician IV.
Note: All Candidates must be capable of obtaining Facility Access.
Location: New Boston, TX, USA
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 07:00 am – 4:00 pm
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Telecommunication Technician III is responsible for supporting all installation aspects of the facility network infrastructure upgrade.
The Telecommunications Technician III shall:
- Be capable of serving temporarily as a Technician IV in the absence of the Technician IV.
- Be subject matter expert for running and lacing CAT6 and fiber-optic cabling to include termination and testing as well as installing / removing overhead equipment mounts; as well as the installation of cable tray, equipment racks, cabinets, and supporting cabling.
- Be able to conduct testing and record the results of the installed cabling infrastructure.
- Possess pipe bending skills to enable fabrication of pipe configurations to fit within existing building infrastructure.
Required Qualifications
Education: Minimum of High School Diploma, Training/Certification: BICSI-certified ITS Technician or Industry equivalent experience.
Experience:
- Six (6) years’ experience in organizing and supervising structured cable systems and Inside Plant (ISP) installations and site surveys.
- Possess supervisory and project management experience of installation crews.
- Experience working from design plans and specifications and possess the ability to meet scheduled deadlines for completion of project(s).
- Wireless network (802.11b/g/a/n, WLAN/WWAN/WMAN) survey/deployment/support experience is preferred.
- Experience with DoD, National, EIA/TIA and BICSI technical and OSHA safety standards.
Qualities:
- Ability to coordinate with Project Manager, Design Engineer, and other subcontractor(s).
- Possess pipe bending skills to enable fabrication of pipe configurations to fit within existing building infrastructure.
- Possess general knowledge of operating principles of wired, wireless and RF environments.
- Possess a general knowledge of wired/wireless equipment installation and basic testing methods and procedures.
- Ability to interpret and perform tasks outlined in vendor documentation, technical specifications, and network practices, engineering letters and job aids.
- Knowledge of telephony networks include DS1, DS3, OC, and various IP networks.
- Dexterity to connect and disconnect various sizes and types of electronic connectors.
- Ability to work in overhead rack or grid for extended periods of time pulling long lengths of heavy cables.
- Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 50 lbs. independently and up to 90 lbs. with assistance, as necessary.
- Ability to climb ladders and steep staircases, including scissor lifts.
- Ability to multi-task and maintain composure in stressful and demanding work environments.
- Ability to adapt to a dynamic environment with shifting priorities while adhering to deadlines.
- Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
- Attention to details and excellent reading comprehension skills.
- Must have experience working from design plans and specifications and possess the ability to meet scheduled deadlines for completion of project(s).
