| Brief Summary of Work for this Position | Police Telecommunicators work in a newly-constructed Communications Center within the UNCW Police Department located on the main campus. Responsibilities are centered on the communications and dispatching functions associated with emergency and non-emergency activities involving the UNCW Police Department and campus community. Functions include monitoring and operating public safety radios, phones, computer resources and databases (CAD, RMS, ENS, DCI, etc.), and alarm receiver; dispatching police personnel, activating protocols, fielding phone calls; interfacing with the 911 Center, other components of the criminal justice network, other public safety agencies, and members of the public supporting a safe and secure campus environment. |
| Minimum Education and Experience Requirements | High School diploma or equivalency and demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Requires certification as a Division of Criminal Information computer operator or the ability to achieve certification within 45 days of employment. Some positions may require Basic Telecommunicator Certification in accordance with the provisions of the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission or the ability to achieve certification within one year of employment. |
