THE POSITION

In this role, you will operate highway construction and maintenance equipment as well as perform a variety of manual laboring duties on a highway or bridge maintenance crew. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a member of the highway maintenance crew, you’ll find that no two days are the same! You will perform a variety of manual laboring duties and operate equipment used for construction and maintenance work. You will also plow snow, make minor repairs to equipment, and provide preventive maintenance for the trucks and equipment, in addition to other duties as necessary.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment.
  • Work hours are 7:00 am to 3:00 pm, Monday – Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • Travel, overtime, and dual shifts be required based upon operational needs, especially during snow emergencies.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • Successful completion of the Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee Program; or
  • Graduation from a Commercial Driver’s License Training School; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Necessary Special Requirements:

  • Must possess a valid Pennsylvania Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) removed.
  • Must possess a valid Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.

Conditions of Employment:
  • All employees must obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders within the probationary period.
  • Employees be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment.
  • All employees must obtain an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) during the probationary period and continuously maintain it while employed in this job.
  • Certain positions in this job require employees to obtain an active Hazardous Materials (H) endorsement.
  • Certain positions require operation of vehicles or equipment with a manual transmission.
  • Requires additional certifications issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation on assigned pieces of equipment.
  • This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.

Additional Requirement:
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
