Utililty Telecommunications OSP Engineer JP8313

Looking for a Utility Telecommunications OSP Engineer in Roanoke, Virginia, for a well-respected organization within the utility industry. This position is a 12-Month Contract with potential to convert to permanent, several levels, ranging from associate to principle based on years of experience, working a hybrid schedule, 2 days in office, 3 days remote, plus travel required.

Provide direct telecommunications outside plant engineering support of internal communications projects.

What you’ll do:

• Calculate & document budgetary cost estimates
• Create detailed engineering plans, costs, & schedules related to areal fiber optics-based projects
• Collaborate with external departments & associated contracting firms, providing guidance regarding telecommunications problems that may arise
• Coordinate with Station Engineers to ensure proper infrastructure is installed during station construction, supporting communications
• Procure fiber cable storage, splicing, terminations, and access equipment
• Document fiber splicing for projects
• Manage fiber splicing-based projects
• Organize Procurement documentation related to fiber splicing
• Review, approve, & document installed fiber test characteristics. Ensure proper communications systems are operation for initial system design
• Coordinate fiber cable maintenance & repairs
• Process equipment & contractor service invoices
• Coordinate with Graphics & Documentation ensuring redlines are processed including as-built documentation

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS BY LEVEL:

Utility Telecommunications Outside Plant (OSP) Engineer Associate (Pay $46 an hour)

• 4-year degree in Engineering, Construction, Business, or Communications + 1-2 years of experience,
• OR 2-year degree in Engineering, Construction, Business, or Communications + 2-5 years of experience
• OR No degree + 6 years of experience

Utility Telecommunications Outside Plant (OSP) Engineer (Pay $50 an hour)

• 4-year degree in Engineering, Construction, Business, or Communications + 2-5 years of experience
• OR 2-year degree in Engineering, Construction, Business, or Communications + 5-9 years of experience
• OR No degree + 9 years of experience

Utility Telecommunications Outside Plant (OSP) Engineer Principle (Pay $76 an hour)

• 4-year degree in Engineering, Construction, Business, or Communications with 9+ years of experience
• OR 2-year degree in Engineering, Construction, Business, or Communications with 14+ years of experience
• OR No degree with 14+ years of experience

WORK EXPERIENCE NEEDED:

• Cable Construction, Maintenance, & Repair Scheduling/Coordination
• Fiber Cable Systems Operation & Maintenance
• Customer needs & implementing workable resolutions
• Communications facility/infrastructure layout, specification, & procurement
• Prioritization & Organization skills

Qualified Work Experience:

Experience with cable construction, maintenance, and repair scheduling/coordination

Experience with fiber cable systems operation and maintenance

Expertise in defining customer needs and implementing practical solutions
