Degrove Surveyors, Inc. was, founded in 1971. We provide surveying and mapping, utility location and hydrographic surveying services throughout Florida.

We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated Utility Crew Chief to join our team in Jacksonville, Florida.

Responsibilities Include, but are not limited to:

As Utility Crew Chief, you are responsible for directing, participating, and controlling field surveying activities of your assigned crew, which include, but not limited to the following:

• Responsible for the correct, safe, and efficient locating of underground utilities, including fiber optic cable, telecommunications, electric power, gas, water, and sewer systems.
• Ability to take ownership of a project and instruct crew on accurate and efficient methods.
• Accurately run and adjust and maintain utility location equipment including but not limited to Ground Penetrating Radar, electromagnetic locator and vacuum excavator
• Accurately run and adjust survey instruments including GPS, robotic total stations, level and other electronic measuring devices with electronic data collecting capabilities.
• Complete accurate and legible survey notes and performs simple note reduction and checks.
• Train other crew members
• Be responsible for crew and vehicle safety.
• Perform maintenance, cleaning, and operation of vehicles, equipment, tools and supplies.
• Create Sunshine one-call tickets.
• Report daily progress and issues to the Project Manager.
• Other duties as assigned, such as assisting with surveying and mapping activities.

Qualifications

• A minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• 2+ years of verifiable subsurface utility location experience.
• Clearly understands the occupational hazards and safety precautions required to perform the essential functions of the work.
• Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
• Must be available for some overnight travel.
• Must be able to obtain security clearances for entry into secure facilities.
• Punctuality and regular attendance are required.
• Perform heavy work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Work requires climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, walking on uneven ground, squatting, crawling, and grasping.
• Ability to pass a drug test and background screening.

Experience:

• AutoCAD: 1 year (Preferred)
• Utility locating: 2 years (Required)
