The Communications Officer monitors and receives emergency and routine police, fire, medical and security calls for service, record and relay information to appropriate personnel, regulate assignments to officers; monitor local police and fire broadcasts, monitor and activate severe weather alert system and monitor alarms.

The Vanderbilt University Public Safety (VUPS) Department operates 24/7. This is a full-time position with occasional overtime required. For this position, applicants must have an open schedule. The compensation for this role is $20.19 per hour.

VUPS comes under the charge of the Office of the Vice Chancellor for the Division of Administration. As one of Tennessee’s larger law enforcement agencies, the Police Department provides comprehensive law enforcement and security services to all components of Vanderbilt University including the Vanderbilt University Campus, Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Vanderbilt Health at One Hundred Oaks, and a variety of University-owned facilities throughout the Davidson County area.

Qualifications

  • Must possess a High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.

  • Must possess a valid Tennessee Driver’s License or actively be in the process of obtaining one.

  • Must be a U. S. Citizen.

  • In compliance with CALEA (Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act) accreditation standards for Communications Officers, VUPS will be requiring all Communications Officers to undergo a medical screening, post conditional offer, which includes a vision, hearing and medical history review.
