The Network and Telecommunications Administrator contributes to the success of the Chicago Zoological Society (“CZS”) by providing effective IT network and telecommunications support for all users, supporting a wide variety of business needs, solutions, applications, and communications necessary to carry out the Society’s mission and maintain operations in all areas supporting annual and strategic goals.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Implement, test, and maintain technical controls, processes, and documentation supporting all CZS compliance and information security policies and practices for network and telecommunications systems and applications. Configure, install, monitor, and maintain equipment related to the network such as switches, Wi-Fi access points, firewalls, and other devices as necessary to ensure the performance of the entire network, including appropriate data cabling.

Manage Active Directory environment, including DNS, DHCP, setting up user accounts, permissions and passwords. Assist with administration and support of VoIP telephone system including PBX, unified messaging, emergency responder, and related systems. Assist with management of on premise and Cloud storage infrastructure and backup systems.

Perform server hardware and software installations, upgrades, patches, and service packs, as necessary. Maintain and monitor IP video system including cameras, applications, and storage performance. Use best practices, tools and collaboration with peers to monitor and maintain a secure network. Provide third-tier technical support to IT support services staff and vendors. Other related duties as assigned including but not limited to reporting immediately to the VP of Information Technology and the SVP of Human Resources any discovery of child pornography or other illegal activities on any of the Society’s electronic or information technology equipment in accordance with Society policy. Immediately report to the VP of Information Technology any activity or request for application or security updates, modifications, or unauthorized access in the IT environment that may violate current Society policy, particularly as it relates to electronic communication or confidential information or loss or breach of personally identifiable information.

Position Requirements and Specifications

The requirements for this position include the following:

High school diploma or (GED) equivalent. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or other relevant field or eight years of equivalent related experience. Three years relevant experience in networking, wireless, firewalls, routing, and switching. Proficiency with best practices related to management, control, and monitoring of server infrastructure. Experience with managing Active Directory, VMWare, backup/recovery, network security, network troubleshooting, and IP video.

Strong organizing, prioritizing and multitasking skills. Ability to work independently and with a team. Must maintain confidentiality of information and user privacy. Good communication and interpersonal skills. English fluency at a professional working proficiency. Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills and ability to resolve problems timely. Ability to work under pressure, prioritize effectively, and meet critical deadlines. Cultural competency; experience and/or ability to work and interact effectively with a diverse, multicultural audience. Valid driver’s license required.

Preferred Qualifications:
Microsoft MCSE and/or CCNA, CISSP certification or equivalent highly preferred.
Experience with Aruba or Cisco network switches preferred.
Multilingual ability, Spanish fluency a plus.
