Telecommunications Design Technician/EIT

WaveStar Networks is currently seeking a qualified Telecommunications Design Technician/EIT located within the GTA. You will be responsible for driving the telecommunications OSP infrastructure design and build process for various leading telecommunications companies within the GTA and surrounding areas. This is a permanent full-time position

With head offices located in Richmond Hill ON, WaveStar Networks is a Canadian company with over 15 years’ experience providing a wide array of network infrastructure and communication system services as well as professional and consulting services to telecommunication/ISP providers, data center operators and corporate/business/public sector customers.

Responsibilities:

• Complete projects within prescribed client’s time limits and budget
• Works closely with Surveyors, CAD Staff, Project Coordinators and other internal or client resources to execute projects within a timely fashion
• Assists with completion of designs for telecommunications networks for clients
• Facilitate preparation of work packages to assist client’s construction forces in building facilities (underground and/or aerial structures, installing fibre & copper cables, and related equipment)
• Work with all required parties in order to complete pole line design assessments in accordance with client’s standards
• Assist engineers, consultants, and clients with analysis, drawings, and reports for aerial permitting, including attachment height, cable/bundle size/type, separation, clearance, and strength
• Ensure design drawings and calculation packages are complete and ready for review and approval by a Professional Engineer as required
• Quality control for designs and drawings.

Requirements:

• College Diploma in Engineering Technology or higher
• Experience with SpidaCalc/Ocalc, Quickpole, and/or excel-sheet based tools
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite & Google Suite
• Good analytical skills and good judgment
• Excellent spoken & written communication skills
• Knowledge of technical standards for the design of the outside network (poles, broad band technology, fibre and copper cables) would be an asset
• Able to operate effectively in a fast-paced and highly energetic environment
• Must have excellent supervision skills and self-disciplined
• Detail oriented and self-motivated a must
• Working experience with AutoCAD 2010 or later is mandatory
• Valid driver’s licence.

·Note: Some Training may be available for the right applicants.

Preferred Skills:

• Knowledge of telecommunications sector standards (Telcordia, Client, LDC, USF, IEE, CSA, ESA, OReg 22.04)
• Past experience within a telecommunications provider, local distribution company, or Design/Engineering/Construction Consultant
• Knowledge of FME, GIS, and other technical skills.

Salary: Based on experience.
