Jacobs Nuclear is the Design and Engineering partner for Sellafield under the PPP (Programme and Project Partners). This is a 20-year arrangement to deliver £7bn of major projects.

We are currently looking for an Improvements Lead Estimator position to join the team in Birchwood, with experience in the nuclear (or another regulated) industry.
The role will be to support projects across the PPP portfolio in terms of bottom up estimating and ownership of the Robust Estimating process within Engineering

  • The role reports for line management in Jacobs to the PPP Improvements Manager
  • Within PPP the role interfaces with the Programme Estimating lead team and other Partners within PPP. The role has a strong functional link to the Communities of Practice (CoP) Lead for Estimating within Jacobs ES&T business.
  • Interfaces and stakeholder management will be needed across the PPP lot partners and Client organisation.

Responsibility for:

  • Ownership and updates to the Robust Estimating process and associated templates within Engineering to develop bottom-up estimates
  • Training and support to the projects, including working with them to determine their specific individual needs
  • Support to PPP Programme Estimating Lead (and others as required) to support requirement to develop programme wide top-down estimates
  • Working closely with the Jacobs ES&T Estimating team to align on best practice and two-way sharing of learning
  • Providing guidance to other member of the project team on estimating methodologies.
  • Identify when required and actively provide support to fellow team members
  • Ensuring the accuracy, extent and timing of own work plus complying with the PPP assurance procedures
  • Support to attending internal meetings to establish man-hour allocations, programme requirements and the extent of bought out equipment and services, as requested
  • Ensuring maximum accuracy of engineering estimates by liaising with Engineers and Risk Practitioners on all engineering estimates
  • Instigation of LFE activities
  • Proactive identification and implementation of Improvement opportunities
  • Perform any other duties within your capability as directed by the Improvements Manager

Skills/Qualifications

  • Significant Estimating role experience within multi-million pound projects
  • Knowledge of Industry practices, preferably Nuclear industry
  • Intermediate to Expert Excel skills, with the ability to manipulate large data sets
  • A knowledge using ITwo would also be preferred, but is not essential
  • Attention to detail and good numerical skills
  • Risk identification and management skills
  • Excellent communication abilities, both written and spoken.
  • Experience in collaborative business relationships
  • Ability to show flexibility of approach in dealing with team colleagues and stakeholders
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Bachelor’s degree an advantage, but not essential
  • A QCF qualification in Project Controls is an advantage, but not essential
