OUTSIDE PLANT ENGINEER (OSPE)
SUMMARY:
An established telecommunications company is seeking an Outside Plant Engineer (OSPE) to join the team! This individual will be responsible for the engineering and design for Fiber to the Home (FTTH) routes and networks within various territories utilizing mapping and records software. Additionally, the OSPE will also review as-builts, blueprints, drawings, change orders, and specifications to verify completeness and accuracy of data.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Engineering and the design of FTTH based on specific fiber modeling
- Ensuring associate parts required for design and generate a BOM including dollar amounts are input into tracking system
- Adhere to specific processes to ensure that designs/records are input and maintained accurately and consistently.
- Produce reports as needed to reflect various OSP assets required including home passing.
- Build records regarding number of “passings” and other associated, relevant documentation for cross-functional departmental use
- Ensure that FTTH plant designs are effectively protected.
- Organization and general filing of office locations
- Assisting team as needed to troubleshoot and track issues, and will also present creative solutions
- Correlates and obtains desired designs upon request.
- Additional responsibilities as required
REQUIREMENTS:
- Thorough knowledge of engineering office practice and FTTH designs
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.)
- Generating and filing reports
- Ability to understand as well as carry out complex oral and written directions
- Ability to work under pressure
- Excellent organizational skills
- Team player
- Takes initiative in recognizing areas of improvement
- Accuracy in filing and storing items
- Physically able to lift and carry loads of 25 lbs or more
MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- BS preferred and/or a minimum of three to five years outside plant database experience including knowledge and experience in FTTH engineering and design
ADDITIONAL SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Strong data base, software, and operating systems background
- Understanding of construction units, terminology, and processes
- Strong Analytical Skills
- Very Meticulous
- Excellent problem-solving skills and communication skills
- Ability to prioritize projects and multi-task as necessary
