Job Summary:

Responsible for providing effective and efficient data and voice communication services to all levels of NEXCOM and supported Exchange s technical staff and management utilizing the most current technology.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Incumbents of this position must be U.S. Citizens.

  • Coordinates and places orders for data and voice communication services as required by all levels of NEXCOM technical staff, including, but not limited to local, long distance, commercial and government services.
  • Coordinates the installation and support hierarchy for telecommunication services ordered.
  • Coordinates the installation and support for associated telecommunications equipment.
  • Provides assistance to appropriate personnel in such matters as billing problems and inconsistencies; providing technical advice on costing for services and training. Applies for credits from providers as required by invoicing inaccuracies. Reconciles inaccuracies in Telco invoicing.
  • Provides assistance in matters regarding, but not limited to, day-to-day operations of voice communications and all equipment associated with it, including completion of Help Desk Requests and training of end-users and associated installation requirements.
  • Assists in the preparation of the department Telco expense budget and project budgets. Projects annual telco expenses based on current commitments and expected orders.
  • Develops and maintain spreadsheets and databases used to track telecommunications data and any cost.
  • Conducts research and development for new telecommunication products and services.
  • Liaison with other NEXCOM functional codes and store management to determine telecommunication requirement.
  • Responsible for the administration of voice mail services.
  • Responsible for documentation of installed telecommunications circuits, voicemail, and voice/PBX equipment.
  • Responsible for data and voice cable installation, troubleshooting, and support.
  • Responsible for documentation related to the installed cable plant, maintains updates to include adds, moves, and changes.
  • Conducts research and stays abreast of cable plant and termination technologies.
  • Maintains the security and integrity of all telecommunications hardware and software.
  • Provides oral and written reports to all levels of the Code I management chain.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

This position is designated IT-2 (Non-critical Sensitive) in accordance with SECNAV M-5510.30 and will require a favorable Access National Agency Check and Inquiries (ANACI).

Requires a total of 4 years of experience as indicated below:

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: 3 years of experience in administrative, technical, merchandising, retail or other work which enabled the applicant to gain a general knowledge of researching, procuring and managing services or products.

OR SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: One year of academic study above the high school level may be substituted for 9 months of experience up to a maximum of a 4 year bachelor’s degree in a Marketing/Sales, Business/Information Systems or Computer Science discipline for 3 years general experience.

AND SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: 1 year total experience in the following:

  • Researching, procuring, and managing a variety of telecommunications services and products for a geographically diverse network environment. Experience managing telecommunications services for a retail environment is preferred.
  • Budgeting for services based upon current commitments and expected equipment/service additions, changes and removals
