Communications Engineer

Company Overview: Our client has an exciting opportunity for a Communications Engineer with successful and progressive attributes. This is an entry-level position responsible for technical and professional work developing and supporting
enterprise networking and telephone services.

Position Summary: The successful candidate shall have a minimum of 4 years’ professional experience administering CRM/database and researching construction opportunities for a large heavy/civil construction or engineering firm required.

Responsibilities:

  • Installs, administers, programs, tests, troubleshoots, and repairs private branch exchange (PBX) equipment and PBX associated voice messaging systems.
  • Configures and troubleshoots connections to the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN).
  • Installs, maintains, and troubleshoots communications racks, uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems, and communications cabling infrastructure to include coaxial, twisted pair, and fiber optic cable.
  • Uses network management, monitoring, and reporting tools.
  • Analyzes network vulnerabilities and anomalies.
  • Performs basic troubleshooting.
  • Diagnoses connectivity problems.
  • Assesses bandwidth usage, network latency, and errors.
  • Gathers device location, configuration information, performance statistics, and error information.
  • Develops reports.
  • Manages and maintains the IP address database for the voice network.
  • Prepares written or electronic reports as required.
  • Works directly with vendors to resolve PBX, PSTN, and network problems.
  • Maintains complete documentation for PBX stations, telephone circuits, and voice messaging systems.
  • Completes work orders related to basic network and telephone system moves, adds, and changes.
  • Responds to emergency calls in the event of a telephone or data network failure.
  • May be assigned to other county locations based upon operational needs.
  • Attends work on a regular and consistent basis.
  • Responds to emergency situations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Telecommunications or related field, and one (1) year of responsible experience in telecommunications.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license. Must obtain a valid Florida driver’s license within 30 days of appointment and maintain thereafter.
  • A comparable amount of training, education, or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
  • Must possess excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Knowledge of systems analysis, data processing, mathematics, statistics, logic and principles of reasoning.
  • Knowledge of information technology systems.
  • Knowledge of telecommunications concepts and design for local and long distance telephone service.
  • Knowledge of voice and data network convergence.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft, Cisco, and PBX operating systems and capabilities.
  • Knowledge of communications cabling standards, cable types, and cabling systems.
  • Knowledge of Quality of Service (QoS) configurations in a converged network.
  • Knowledge of VoIP Call Control and associated protocols (H.323, SIP, RTP, T.38)
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP protocols.
  • Knowledge of Cisco router and switch technology.
  • Knowledge of wireless network concepts, technology, and design (802.11, 802.16, 802.11n, 8-2.11ac).
  • Knowledge of network security concepts and firewall technologies.
  • Knowledge of Wide Area Network technology and architectures.
  • Knowledge of public Internet architecture and protocols.
  • Knowledge of network and application layer security protocols.
  • Knowledge of Virtual Private Networks (VPNs).
  • Skilled in troubleshooting issues related to Local Area Network technologies.
  • Skilled in programming and configuring PBXs in an enterprise environment.
  • Skilled in integrating messaging systems with telephony networks.
  • Ability to analyze and troubleshoot network performance problems.
  • Ability to manage projects independently and multi-task within schedules.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, clearly, and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the management, staff, customers, and coworkers.
  • Ability to work under stressful conditions.
  • Must be able to relocate to other county locations based upon operational needs.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00 – $22.00 per hour
