Description

Hospital Operator – Telecommunications Department – (0.6 FTE) This position typically works (3) three night shifts during weekdays/weekends at Providence St. Vincent’s Medical Center located in Portland, Oregon.

Operates telecommunications console in placing, receiving and relaying calls. Answers all incoming calls for Physicians Answering Service and follows each physicians procedure. Performs paging, code announcements and other duties in accordance with approved policies and procedures.

Use of the following equipment/systems

  • AT&T Switchboard.
  • Voice Paging System.
  • Cellular Systems.
  • Hospital Alarm Fire Code Systems and other safety & security alarms.
  • Personal Computer, STAR Patient Care.
  • Copy/Fax machines.
  • Amcom Paging System.

Responsible for

  • Activates pages as requested for physicians, medical personnel and emergency services for codes, emergencies and other needs.
  • Prepares daily call schedule and duty assignments for various departments using Excel.
  • Communicates effectively with compassion and sensitivity, anticipating the needs of patients, families, physicians and their office staff, co-workers, supervisors and other hospital departments.
  • Provides superior customer service through telephone or personal contact that consistently meets and exceeds the expectations of patients, visitors, physicians and PHS staff.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Coursework/Training: College-level coursework
  • Healthcare experience in a hospital setting, health insurance or medical office
  • Multi-line phone experience
  • Hospital or large business switchboard experience
  • Clerical and computer experience
  • Excellent public relation skills
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and to use good judgment.
  • Ability to respond to emergency situations quickly and accurately.
  • Keyboarding skills 30 wpm
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word/Excel and related software.
