Job Purpose

  • Works with AMT to consult as the high-level strategic manager for an assigned book of business
  • Creates, builds and maintains relationships to enhance the client’s partnership with UnitedHealthcare
  • Responsible for creating, leading and executing a service/adoption strategy for assigned book of business
  • Partners with the AMT to deliver continuous improvement in operating efficiency, accountability, and financial performance that the competition cannot match
  • Oversees strategic network development opportunities by creating a client-specific strategy
  • Understands the client’s business model and partners on growth strategy (includes open enrollment)

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage ongoing relationships and service delivery to clients for one or more accounts. Contribute to increasing member and client NPS satisfaction scores
  • Act as outward-facing resource for assigned accounts, typically with direct client contact
  • Represent client internally and coordinate with other functions to implement client systems, complete projects, and address ongoing service needs
  • Predict emerging customer needs and develops innovative solutions to meet them
  • Solve unique and complex problems with broad impact on the business
  • Participate in the development of business strategy and manage business plans to achieve objectives
  • Focus on customer needs and provides feedback to Strategic Client Executive (SCE) and internal Account Management Team (AMT) for future growth and opportunity
  • Partners with SCE to support new product and membership opportunities by researching implications for specific clients and analyzing data
  • Align clients’ needs against our portfolio of solutions and products
  • Develop plans that anticipate short- and long-term business demands
  • Develop and deliver presentations including tailored messages to audience and effectively using media
  • Understand assigned customers’ business models and provide consultation for product strategy, funding strategies, network strategies, claim cost control and service strategy partnering with underwriting as needed
  • Work with internal areas to build consensus for ideas, plans, actions and to initiate improvements, implementing them flawlessly
  • Participate in renewal planning, negotiation, and profitability levels working with underwriting and strategic accounts as needed
  • Identify and implement process and service improvements for assigned accounts and proactively engages matrix partners when appropriate
  • Engage in analysis of whether a pilot add value to the Client. Actively leads relevant discussions to understand risk, helps to develop customer specific strategies for implementation and oversees required activities.

    • Influence change across organizational boundaries
    • Lead large, complex projects to achieve key business objectives
    • Influence senior leadership to adopt new ideas, products, and/or approaches
    • Understand that project work have segment wide impact
  • Team Management Responsibilities
    • Function as a senior-level team member within regional Client Services team coaching and mentoring team members, as needed
    • Act as a leader within the AMT by coaching, mentoring and sharing best practices with the entire AMT
    • Translate highly complex concepts in ways that can be understood by a variety of audiences
    • Direct cross-functional and/or cross-segment teams

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree for formal education or at least 10+ years of health care business experience or related background with proven track record focused on establishing and maintaining customer relationships in a service delivery organization
  • 8+ years of previous account management/servicing experience, proficient working knowledge of healthcare and healthcare products, demonstrated strategic thinking and planning skills that come from hands-on experience
  • Knowledge of health insurance industry, products and services, and managed care environment
  • Extensive knowledge of internal processes and resources (claims, eligibility, contract, underwriting, reporting, financial analysis); understand how the organization works and knows how to get things done both through formal and informal channels. Ability to navigate UnitedHealthcare organization
  • Superior customer-service orientation along with both excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to travel 25% of the time

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only : The salary range for Colorado residents is $97,300 to $176,900. The salary range for Connecticut / Nevada residents is $97,300 to $176,900. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
