What You Will Be Doing

The INL Moves, Adds and Changes (MAC) Technician is responsible for the on-site installation, repair, operation, maintenance, and technical support of the Telephone telecommunications cable systems at a large Government facility.Minimum of 5 years relevant experience with various types of horizontal cabling and vertical riser cabling; fiber, copper, and category 3 – 6A wiring; terminations, telephone backboards, protector blocks, termination blocks, main distribution frames (MDFs), intermediate distribution frames (IDFs), and patch panels supporting the various cable types. Must have good knowledge of premise and outside plant cabling.

Responsibilities:

• Support to the Government telecommunications systems, including inside and outside cable system repair, maintenance, and installation, as assigned by the supervisor. Assigned cable systems will emphasize LAN/WAN cable systems typically utilizing CAT 3/5e/6A copper, fiber, and/or coax cable and outside plant cabling to include copper and fiber-optic.
• Provide crossover support to other Tyto Athene Technicians on-site is mandatory as required by the Supervisor.
• OSP copper and fiber optic cable troubleshooting/splicing, manhole work, lifting, and operation of heavy equipment may be required.
• Support and perform installation of single, dual, or quad LAN and voice jacks as required.
• Isolate system problems and malfunctions; take timely corrective action to meet conditions of Tyto Athene’s contract.
• Direct involvement in work order evaluation, scheduling, and execution, and on-time work order update and closeout.
• Provide verbal and written task/project status reports.
• Additional work hours beyond normal duty hours may be necessary, at times, to complete the weekly workload based upon the discretion of the supervisor.
• Support during off-hours on-call duty schedule in the event of service problems with communications system.
• Fostering of excellent relations with the Customer and the team on behalf of Tyto Athene.

Who You Are
Minimum Requirements

• Experience and proficiency in installation, termination, and testing of premise/building/Network cabling to include Cat3, Cat5e, Cat6A, Fiber-Optic, Coax, Riser, and Backbone Cables.
• Proficient use of special tools and test equipment is required.
• Must have overall understanding and knowledge of telecommunications infrastructure and voice and data applications.
• Must possess solid experience in complete pre-cabling preparation, installation of patch panels, punch down 66/110 blocks, 110-patch panel, and various data and voice jacks.
• Capable of working effectively with co-workers and fulfill customer requests.
• Strong computer skills with emphasis on applications are required.
• Effective time management to allow for involvement in special task order projects as assigned by the supervisor.
• Ability to successfully handle multiple priorities simultaneously is required.
• Ability to work extremely flexible hours and support on-call duties and shift work is required.
• Must be a US citizen.
• A valid driver’s license is required.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Security Clearance.

Preferred Requirements

• Certifications/Training in the following: Telecommunications, SYSTIMAX Installation and Maintenance, or BICSI.
• Ability to interpret CAD design drawings and adhere to NEC, BICSI – EIA – TIA specifications.
• Experienced in VoIP technologies such as H.323 and SIP.
• Experience in installing, testing, and troubleshooting of transmission facilities (OC48, T3, T1 PRI, SIP and DS0).
