Telecommunications Technician

Our company is looking for a motivated individual who enjoys performing tasks with a high level of flexibility and variety. The Installation Technician is responsible for installing equipment and software in clients’ homes and offices, troubleshooting problems and resolving issues on a daily basis.

We are able to hire technicians as both contractors or employees and provide competitive compensation. Contractors will need to procure their own white work van. The company is able to provide a work vehicle to employees. Specifics of compensation will be discussed during the phone call interview. Daily minimum pay may be arranged with contractors. Contractors will otherwise be paid via peice rate. Paid training will also be provided with the contingency of six months’ service.

Successful candidates for this position work independently, exhibit excellent communication skills and preferably have two years’ experience in the telecommunications industry or relevant education. We are willing to accept those with no relevant experience and education and provide training, if they met the requirements.

Requirements:

• Valid driver’s license.
• Physically fit; ability to lift heavy objects, tools and climb ladders.
• Criminal background check (We will provide.)
• Ability to distinguish colors.
• Ability to climb ladders at least 30′ high.
• Work vehicle (contractors only.)
• Contractor insurance (contractors only.)
• WCB clearance (contractors only.)
• Supplies: Tools and ladders (contractors only.)
• Must have a Smart Phone for work purposes.

What you’ll be doing:

• Installing, repairing, and maintaining Fiber and Copper Networks.
• Troubleshooting Copper and Fiber Networks.
• Installing data and voice cabling (Cat5e & Cat 6 etc.)
• Installing residential copper and fiber aerial drops.
• Crimping and terminating Cat5e RJ45 connectors.

Responsibilities:

• Proficiency using handheld tools and working at heights.
• Maintaining stock of all parts, supplies, and equipment.
• Handling exposure to a variety of harsh weather including heat, cold, wind, and rain.
• Follow safe drilling procedures.
• Willingness to work flexible schedules including daytime, evenings, weekends & overtime.
• Follow safe work practices.

• Fluency in the English language – both spoken & written
• Neat appearance and good customer service skills
• Ability to work independently and offer assistance if required to other technicians.

• Willing to travel anywhere in the metropolitan area.

Desired Skills:

• Good understanding of Computers and Android apps
• Installing, troubleshooting, and servicing home internet systems/products residential settings.
• You will interact with consumers daily and should be comfortable and able to effectively communicate/train customers
• Current Fall Protection, ladder safety & WHIMS certification, Working at Heights training, liability insurance (contractors only) and WCB (contractors only)
