is a leading telecommunications contractor. We are currently seeking an experienced and motivated Telecommunications Foreman / Supervisor to lead our outside plant (OSP) field operations fiber splicing and cable placement team in Alberta.


SHIFT INFORMATION:

  • 8-hour working day
  • Monday to Friday schedule
  • Some overtime required – may move to rotational schedule for some projects


WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Manage the Fiber Splicing / Cable Placement team including providing technical advice and hands-on support during the pre-construction and construction phases of the OSP project.
  • Coordinate with our Civil construction and corporate project management team to help deliver projects on time, on budget, and within quality and safety standards.
  • Partner with project stakeholders, internal customers, external vendors, and cross-functional teams – including corporate and contract engineering and design team members.
  • Ensure that the project assets such as vehicles, test equipment, tools, etc. are in good working condition and are well maintained
  • Participate in project meetings and effectively support the overall project effort.
  • Anticipate and identify tasks required to support change processing including performing a change impact analysis, assigning tasks to project team members, verbally communicating complex issues, verifying that tasks are completed, and corresponding implementation status
  • QA/QC – Inspecting and assure construction work quality and crew safety.
  • Managing sub-contractors in pre-construction and construction activities
  • Manage and mentor members of the Fiber Splicing / Cable Placement team.


WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE ROLE:

  • 3+ years of supervisory experience in a similar role
  • 5+ years of hands-on technical fiber optic experience including some or all of:
  • Splicing, testing, and troubleshooting of fiber sites and links
  • Cable placement experience (Hand placement, Hydraulic tugging, Jetting)
  • Documenting and reporting on completed telecommunication work
  • Maintaining project and telecom safety documentation
  • Inspecting fiber routes and hub sites as preventative maintenance
  • Locating faults and mobilizing resources within minimal time to counter fault
  • Reviewing engineered plans and blueprints
  • Setting up and operating specialized and standard test equipment to diagnose, test and analyze the performance of fiber optic assemblies and systems
  • Constructing new telecom facilities and repairing/rehabbing existing telecom facilities
  • Safety conscious and organization skills required
  • Capable of working with and directing a large crew
  • Proficient in Alberta 1 call program
  • Proficient with FTTP, IX, and mainline construction methods and supervision
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and knowledge to independently manage self and others’ workload efficiently
  • CFOT certificate OR relevant experience
  • Must be skilled & proficient with color-coded cable and count identification
  • Ability to work in the underground (confined spaces), buried, and aerial environments
  • A valid driver’s license & clean abstract are required. Class 1 or 3 are an asset
  • Eligible to work in Canada
  • Travel required valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle are necessary
  • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, or on emergency call-outs as required


Preferred location:

  • Job-based in South and Central Alberta
  • We will consider candidates from Calgary, Edmonton, Red Deer, and surrounding areas
