Legacy Designtech Inc. is one of the leaders in providing design and engineering services to major shallow utilities such as telecommunications, power and gas.

We are currently looking for a Field Crew Lead which will be responsible for coordination of all field staff as well as field data and information collection that are required for pole line analysis (PLA), utility line assignments (ULA), railways crossings, HP Gas proximity & crossings, highway permits and as-built drawings. The Field Crew Lead will also support our construction team for pre- and post-construction surveys using our most advanced survey equipment. This position will report to the Design Lead. Key Responsibilities

  • Be a trusted mentor, manage and develop team members toward a successful career.
  • Be a performance leader, improve profitability of projects through effective planning, active scope/schedule management, and forecast project outcomes and adjust where necessary to deliver successful outcomes.
  • Conduct Management Field Observations on a regular basis to discuss safety with employees and ensure that safe working conditions are being maintained
  • Ensure effective communication in work activities for projects and services.

Essential Job Functions

  • Train and support all new field staff
  • Coordinate and delegate weekly survey schedules
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and designers.
  • Measure wire attachment and mid-span heights on power poles using Leica S910 Distro
  • Take pictures, document, and log all field info.
  • Pre-design survey of existing telecommunication and power facilities using RTK – Equipment: R10-2 Trimble GPS
  • Post construction as-built survey of newly constructed telecommunication facilities using RTK – Equipment: R10-2 Trimble GPS
  • Importation of GPS points into cad software (AutoCAD and Microstation)
  • Accountable in managing project budgets and schedules for successful on time delivery while maintaining high quality of work.
  • Perform field check and plant audit.
  • Perform basic Drafting in AutoCAD and MicroStation
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications

Diploma or Degree in Geomatics Engineering Technology, B.Sc. in Geomatics or related discipline.

  • 5+ years of experience surveying and geomatics.
  • 5+ years of experience in a leadership role.
  • Any Land Surveyor (LS) Designation is an asset.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Expert knowledge of laws, regulations, statutes, and codes pertaining to project impacts and Land Surveying services.
  • Knowledge of project financial processes including managing and controlling costs, operating profit/margins
  • Experienced using RTK GPS and Leica S910 Distro is preferred
  • Must be familiar with telecommunications and electrical standards including Canadian Electrical Code and Alberta Electrical Code.
  • Knowledge in AutoCAD, MicroStation, Bluebeam and MS programs required.
  • Must be able to interpret shallow utility plans and redline drawings.
  • Class 5 Driver’s License and must provide a clean driver abstract.
  • Selected Candidate is required to obtain police clearance.
