SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES: The Network Engineer will be responsible for service and support of local area networks, wide area network, routers, switches, firewalls, wireless solutions, etc. within the infrastructure of multiple locations. The candidate will work with other staff to assist with coordination of LAN/WAN and related issues and activities. The candidate will monitor performance and troubleshoot the overall network. The candidate will participate as a local technical resource in systems projects involving data center / network activities and will be responsible to assist in the support of the end user community. The ideal candidate has a very strong understanding of core networking concepts, network monitoring, troubleshooting, and experience with meeting deadlines. The candidate will be proficient in the operation, design and maintenance of the IT connectivity environment including hands-on configuration of routers, L2/L3 switches, Wi-Fi, conferencing, call manager, IVR, firewalls, and load-balancers. This position requires a heightened attention to detail, process, and discipline within a public utility environment. Composes connectivity designs to satisfy project /task requirements utilizing proven, best-practice technologies and solutions. Performs implementation and troubleshooting of the architecture to address identified deficiencies and enhance the company’s strategic direction. May be assigned other duties related to technology and performs related work as required. Extended hours and on-call availability are required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assures safety rules are enforced and no lost time accidents occur;
- Responds to customer’s (internal and/or external) concerns/inquiries in a professional/timely manner; communicates concerns/inquires to manager, when appropriate; maintains composure at all times;
- Prioritizes work, based upon project requirements, to ensure effective utilization of available resources; anticipates needs; provides accurate and timely reports in all areas of responsibility;
- Responsible for the installation, implementation, and administration of all PWC Networks and Telephony;
- Consults with other groups, end users, and management to assist in troubleshooting of network issues and application problems within PWC;
- Maintain existing and future networking environment(s) and install/replace with new generation devices;
- Use networking tools to prevent, detect, investigate, and respond to help security operations prevent threats and efficiently manage alerts;
- Identifies and documents all network hardware and software;
- Lead and successfully complete all assigned network infrastructure projects;
- Build, configures, and supports internal and/or external networks from the simple to complex;
- Assists with network systems design and engineering in support of new systems, services, and scalability
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Thorough knowledge of safety rules/regulations/ procedures as applicable
- Thorough knowledge of telephony, call management and IVR technologies
- Thorough knowledge of routing/switching, IEEE Standards, networking protocols
- Extensive knowledge of LAN/WAN, Intrusion Detection System (IDS/IPS), Cisco Catalyst/IOS operating systems, Cisco devices, VPN, WAP, routers, fiber optics and related hardware/software
- Demonstrated experience with Layer 2, and Layer 3 networking – Advanced knowledge and experience with EIGRP, and BGP routing protocols
- Extensive experience with Cisco Nexus 7000/9000, Catalyst 9300,3560
- Extensive senior-level experience with Cisco Routing and Switching
- Previous experience with Cisco Firewalls required
- Previous experience with cloud technologies, SaaS, IaaS, VCN’s and peering groups
- Previous experience with Fat Pipe and F5 Load Balancer technologies a plus
- Previous experience in designing and implementing enterprise-level networks
- Ability to document details in a clear and concise manner
- Ability to successfully troubleshoot and solve complex problems
- Ability to function with minimal instruction or supervision as a part of a larger team
- Ability to communicate effectively and possess strong organizational skills
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (either)
(A) Graduation from an accredited four (4) year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in a technical major and a minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in planning, implementing, and maintaining complex telecommunications systems to include TCP/IP, LAN, WAN, and telephony , often including both vendor and customer situations, OR
(B) Graduation from an accredited two (2) year college/technical school with an Associate’s degree/certification in a technical major and a minimum of seven (7) years of experience as defined in (A) above
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) and/or CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional). Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position.
SAFETY HAZARDS: When performing field work, may be exposed to inside/outside working conditions, extreme cold/heat, noise and hazards including a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to moving vehicles/ mechanical parts, heavy equipment, and climbing ladders.
