Job description

The OSP Inspector will be responsible for quality control of fiber placement work designed by the Engineering team and placed by the Construction team or subcontractors. This will include but not limited to Underground and Aerial construction, Handhole placement, Pole attachments, Pole replacements and clearances on poles, as well as other related outside plant construction activities. In addition, the inspector will perform safety assessments.

Essential Functions:

  • Inspect and document fiber placement to match customers specifications
  • Identify necessary requirements to successfully attach fiber to a telephone pole
  • Utilize facility analysis process to analyze work order drawings
  • Update work order records in an accurate and timely manner
  • Ensures all installation work is done according to company quality standards
  • Oversee and identify necessary repairs or remedial work when needed
  • Assists with on-site inspections and personal protective equipment (PPE) inspections of employees
  • Works closely with construction teams to ensure ongoing quality installation
  • Maintains a safe work environment by following safe practices and adhering to safety policies. This includes practicing safe driving techniques
  • Updates and improves job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, and reading technical publications

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Success Factors:

  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods, often under adverse climatic conditions.
  • Excellent oral/written communication, interpersonal and analytical skills
  • Deep understanding of communications engineering and related systems
  • Ability to climb, dig, work in tight spaces, on uneven surfaces, walking, stooping, and kneeling
  • Ability to work well independently and as a part of a team with co-workers
  • Ability to pass motor vehicle, criminal background check, and comply with drug-free workplace policy
  • English usage sufficient to keep records, place orders, and prepare simple narrative reports
  • Willingness and ability to learn additional skills

Experience and Education:

  • Ability to use Microsoft Excel
  • At least 5 years OSP experience
  • Vendor management experience

Additional Requirements/Licenses/Certifications:

  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid State of Residence Driver’s License is required within two weeks of employment.
  • Candidates must pass criminal and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) background checks and pass a pre-employment drug screen.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60,000.00 – $70,000.00 per hour

Schedule:

  • 10 hour shift
  • 8 hour shift
  • Monday to Friday

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Portland, OR: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)

License/Certification:

  • Driver’s License (Preferred)

Willingness to travel:

  • 50% (Preferred)
