Position: Circuit Switched (CS) Network Engineer
Location: Dallas, Texas
Reporting to: Director of Engineering
Role:
- The CS Network Engineer works as part of the Engineering department responsible for managing Limitless Mobile’s mobile core network as well as deploying and managing and supporting solutions for wholesale customers in the US.
Tasks/Responsibilities:
- Managing Ericsson mobile core network elements and interconnections, including developing Subject Matter Expertise (SME) in specific elements and acting as the internal SME for those, including making recommendations for improvements.
- Configuration and software version management of the assigned mobile core network elements.
- Supporting management of the relevant mobile core network element vendors.
- Supporting Roaming & Carrier Relations to implement new roaming and wholesale agreements, including IREG testing.
- Supporting Pre-Sales (Solution Architects) through peer-review of proposed solutions to customer needs as needed.
- Working with Solution Architects and CTO to turn solutions designed for wholesale customers into High Level Design (HLD) documentation.
- Taking ownership of solution deployment for contracted wholesale customers.
- Supporting the Network Operations Centre (NOC) with live wholesale customer support, including both proactive and reactive identification / troubleshooting and resolution of issues.
- Developing skills across the infrastructure components and newer technologies.
Measurement:
- Based on a combination of factors including number of new customers deployed, speed of resolution of support issues, etc.
Desired Expertise & Experience:
- Bachelors or Master’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering.
- Minimum of 5-8 years working in the telecommunications industry designing, integrating and managing mobile core network propositions for e.g., a NEP or carrier / MNO.
- Minimum of 3 years of systems integration, management and/or technical support of Ericsson mobile core network components.
- In-depth knowledge of mobile voice and data core network architecture (including MNO and MVNO / MVNE infrastructure architecture) as well as network topology, including ability to describe the key elements of a mobile network and understand how the components function and interact as well as how mobile calls are made and received and how mobile data sessions work.
- Circuit Switched communications protocols such as SS7 (including SCCP, TCAP, MAP and CAMEL phases 1-4), SCTP (SIGTRAN), including ability to design and configure voice and messaging flows.
- Demonstrable experience in configuring Ericsson Circuit Switched network elements, such as HLR, HSS, MSC/VLR, SGSN, DNS, OCS, IP-STP, DSC, etc.
- Circuit Switched network elements, interfaces and messaging for both 3G/WCDMA and 4G/LTE networks, including IMS CSFB and PCRF.
- Voice SIP / RTP, ISUP and voice convergence technologies, including IMS (including VoLTE and VoWiFi).
- Hands-on experience in configuring, managing and supporting Ericsson mobile core network components, including RAN elements and OSS platform.
- In-depth understanding of 3GPP, ITU-T and ANSI standards.
- Understanding of roaming agreements and IR.21, including IREG testing.
- RADIUS and Diameter for both signalling and charging scenarios.
- Online Charging System (OCS) and CAMEL in billing and call control.
- IP networking, including IPv4 and IPv6, VPN IPSec and Point-to-Point (e.g., to CCNA standard).
- Trouble shooting and fault detection. Proactive and preventative maintenance.
- IP and SS7 network security.
- DOCSIS.
- Familiarity with BSS platforms and provisioning systems.
- Experience with Capacity Management and Dimensioning.
- Useful areas of experience include landline protocols such as ISUP, MAP, location-based services, etc.
- Linux system administration and shell scripting as well as RDBMS (e.g., Oracle) and Storage Area Networks (SAN).
- Lawful Intercept, E911, and CALEA requirements in the Circuit Switched domain.
- Successful record of designing compelling technical solutions based on commercial needs of customers.
