After a preliminary review of qualifications, all approved candidates will be required to complete and return a questionnaire describing their relevant training and experience. The rating of training and experience will be based upon the information candidates provide on the questionnaire. Ambiguity and vagueness will not be resolved in the candidate’s favor. Additional information concerning a candidate’s training and experience will not be accepted after the questionnaire has been rated. Candidates who have not received a questionnaire by April 5, 2023 should contact the Department of Human Resources, Personnel and Civil Service.

Payment must be made by VISA or MasterCard credit card and there will be an additional convenience fee of $1.95. An acknowledgement of receipt of application will be sent to all internet applicants via e-mail. A separate application and processing fee are required for each examination (identified by examination number) for which you are applying. The application processing fee is non-refundable and non-transferable.
The application processing fee may be waived for Suffolk County residents who are veterans, active duty military, members of the reserves or National Guard, auxiliary police, firefighters, members in good standing of a local fire district or ambulance company, members of a Volunteer Fire Department or Volunteer Emergency Medical Services Agency Explorers programs, volunteer CERT members and members of the Suffolk County Police Explorers program. The fee may also be waived if you are unemployed and primarily responsible for the support of a household and for recipients of Medicaid, SSI, Public Assistance or those in a training program under the Job Training Partnership Act/Workforce Investment Act administered by a state or local social service agency. Applicants should complete the “Request for Application Fee Waiver and Certification” form online. All claims for application fee waiver are subject to verification.
The only subject of the examination will be an evaluation of the candidates’ training and experience. Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will receive a rating based on an evaluation of their training and experience against the background of the duties of the position.
Position Description:
An employee in this class is responsible for the operation of a telecommunications network management console to communicate with data and voice system components with functions such as call-accounting, voice mailboxes, etc. The employee will troubleshoot system problems, monitor usage, and generate reports in order to insure optimum system utilization. Supervision may be exercised over a small number of employees assigned to the Call Center. Work is performed under general supervision of a system or general administrator. Does related work as required.
Graduation from a standard senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, and three (3) years of experience operating and updating a computerized telecommunications system.
This is a Suffolk County Civil Service position. Grade 17 Annual Salary $43,404.
