Director of Networking and Telecommunications

Lamar State College Orange


Direct and manage the data, voice, and video telecommunications operations for Lamar State College Orange and Lamar State College Port Arthur. Performs highly advanced and supervisory (senior-level) network work. Directs activities associated with a local and wide area networks Internet and intranet systems, and other data networks; plans, designs, and integrates data telecommunications networks; designs, installs, and monitors networks; monitors and analyze existing hardware and software; develops policies and procedures; prepares budget recommendations; and evaluates potential network upgrades and enhancements. Works under minimal supervision, with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Maintains all aspects of the Networking & Telecommunications team. Reports to the Assistant Vice President for Information Technology.
Plans, designs, installs, and maintains the voice, data, and video network. Includes PBX management and administration.

Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associates-degree with major coursework in computer science, management information systems, or a related field. Sufficient experience or related certifications may be substituted for a degree.

  • Bachelor’s degree with major coursework in computer science or a related field preferred.
  • Demonstrated hands on project management and facilitation skills with a proven track record of leading and managing large IT projects on schedule that meet customer expectations.
  • A minimum of five years-experience managing Networking and Telecommunication projects organization wide.
  • Demonstrated extensive experience at the following competencies: Decision Making and Critical Thinking; Planning: tactical and strategic; Effective Communications including Facilitation; Problem Solving; Conflict Management; Process Management; Project Management; Team Management and Analytical Thinking.
  • Demonstrated excellent customer-facing and listening skills. Demonstrated ability to work effectively, both independently and collaboratively, in a team-oriented environment.
  • Strong coaching and leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • More than five years of experience managing and leading large N&T IT projects and personnel.
  • Project Management certification and experience.
  • Demonstrated success in managing a highly complex IT focused program consisting of multiple projects within Networking and other areas of IT.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive effective results in a diverse and challenging environment.
  • Demonstrated success in leading without authority.
  • Experience in higher education and federated environments.
  • Minimum 5 years supervising all aspects of an N&T Team.

Pay: $80,000.00 per year
