FIBER NETWORK DEPLOYMENT TECHNICIAN
The Fiber Network Deployment Technician will work on projects involving new build-out services or emergency restoration services. This individual will be responsible for terminating, splicing, documenting, and testing all fiber optic cables within the company’s fiber optic networks and the related equipment. Responsible for customer premise installations, including racking, cabling, labeling, and testing.
Job Responsibilities:
- Perform fusion splicing including ring cuts, on live fiber without affecting existing services
- Perform fiber characterization testing with EXFO OTDR’s, Power Meter, and VFL
- Terminate, splice, and tests fiber spans to division/customer standards
- Provide accurate equipment labeling, splicing, and termination records for the fiber database
- Assist the Engineering department in accepting and turning up the fiber network
- Build racking, jumper ducts, and other network elements needed for the installation of fiber equipment and patch panels
- Monitor, communicate, and perform corrective actions to fix problems affecting any fiber related equipment
- Install demarcation racks, enclosures and other telecom equipment
- Respond to network outages when needed
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, and climb or balance. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds repeatedly and frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Experience Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver’s license required
- Prefer at least 3 years of experience in modern fiber splicing techniques for the telecommunications industry
- Ability to work under minimal supervision, including applying technical expertise to evaluate problems and implement the best solutions
- Work well under pressure and deadline environments
- Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment
- Must fully comply with the company’s safety program
- Interact and communicate effectively with co-workers, managers, and customers
- Working knowledge of EXFO OTDR and testing fiber
- Ability to read and interpret splicing schematics and EDP’s
- Possesses general computer and keyboarding skills (MS Office Suite experience helpful)
Prefer experience with the following equipment: fusion splicer, OTDR, power meters, traffic identifiers, digital multi-meters, cleavers, strippers, buffer tube splitters, cable ring tools, hand tools, ladders, bucket trucks, etc.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.00 – $26.00 per hour
