About this role

As part of our Competition Finance team, you’ll be taking on the unique responsibility of providing information and insight that informs Ofcom’s decision making, decisions that are fundamental to the future of telecommunications here in the UK.

To ensure consumers like us receive a fair deal, Ofcom rely on the output from our team of Competition Finance experts to make informed decisions. Our experts deal in a range of financial and non-financial data, and work with colleagues across BT to analyse our business performance.

Your role within Competition Finance would place you within the team responsible for preparing our annual Regulatory Financial Statements (RFS). They’re a set of statements that display our profitability in markets where we’re deemed to have significant market power (SMP) by Ofcom.

You’ll have the following responsibilities

  • You’ll have responsibility for creating the first of our annually published regulatory reports, known as the Change Control Notification (CCN). This is a high profile published document, where we’ll rely on you to ensure that it meets Ofcom’s high quality standards.
  • To create the CCN, your team will own our annual cycle of methodology changes. You and your assistant will be relied on to run a process that involves all members of our Competition Finance team, regulatory experts, lawyers, and senior finance leaders from across BT.
  • You’ll manage our Change Control Assistant. We’ll be relying on you to develop them, allowing them to grow and progress their career.
  • You’ll prepare ad hoc information for Ofcom. You’ll provide Ofcom with all the relevant information they need to opine on our changes.
  • You’ll report your team’s progress, using KPIs and weekly updates. We’ll need visibility of how you’re progressing against key milestones.
  • You’ll build relationships with colleagues across BT. You’ll be trusted to obtain approval from senior-level colleagues before we can publish our reports.
  • Your team will lead on explaining the differences between last year’s annual reporting, and this year’s. You’ll work with your assistant to ensure we have robust financial information to explain year on year variances.

You’ll have the following skills & experience

  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent) with post-qualified experience.
  • Strong understanding of core Microsoft Excel techniques.
  • Experience in other Microsoft Office applications (i.e. PowerPoint, Word).
  • Track record of delivering significant departmental improvements.
  • Motivation to take on responsibility within a high performing team.
