Purpose of the role
The purpose of the Highways Technology Engineer role is to carry out cyclic and reactive maintenance on of our client National Highways for more than 300 miles of strategic road network in the Northwest, including some of the region’s busiest motorways: the M6, M56 and M62. The role involves responsibility for Technology Maintenance on the Northwest motorway and trunk road network in Greater Manchester, Cheshire, Merseyside, and Lancashire which includes carrying out maintenance and fault / failure rectification activities on the following types of equipment – CCTV, ERT, MIDAS, RCC, NTIS, SWIS, Traffic Signal, Message sign and signal equipment in line with the National Highways (NH) Asset delivery asset maintenance requirements (ADAMr). You will be tasked to provide support and assistance to the technology team in all relevant projects to meet client and Amey objectives.
The working hours are 42 hours – the shifts Monday to Thursday, 08.00am – 17.00pm (34 hours), and Friday 08.00am – 16.30pm (8 hours).
About the Role
- Routine and corrective maintenance of roadside highway technology assets, ancillary equipment and/or other highways systems to ensure effective delivery of ADAMr service levels to outcome required
- Periodic Inspections of roadside highway technology assets, ancillary equipment and / or highways systems equipment including electrical testing.
- Accurate collection and processing of data to enable fault free analysis of equipment performance
- Analysis of data to assess performance of equipment within contractual requirements, ensuring correct storage of information once process complete
- Out of hours working to support service contract requirements
- On-call fault attendance rota and/or out of hours maintenance to ensure contract restore times are met.
- Successful completion of mandatory NHSS training requirements; work towards LANTRA ‘Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Servicing and commissioning Highway Electrical Systems’ qualification
- Undertake appropriate training with the addition of new equipment and systems as and when necessary, via formal and informal training, including on the job training.
- In accordance with the Company Health and Safety Policy, all employees have a duty to comply with all Health and Safety Procedures and to be alert in identifying potential hazards by removing or minimising them wherever possible
- Any other duties reasonably requested within the skills required for the role.

- HNC or B/TEC in Electrical/Electronics/Telecommunications Engineering or 8 years’ experience working on Highways Technology assets or closely related technical skills.
