The opportunity

Advising clients on their most complex sustainable infrastructure challenges, is a core focus for EY, and something that spans multiple sectors and competencies. Our team are focused on the following core areas across:

  • The initiation and successful delivery of transformation programmes, tackling our clients’ most pressing and complex initiatives
  • Sustainable infrastructure to support the government’s green infrastructure plan and ambition to deliver net zero to the UK
  • The involvement in early stage, large scale infrastructure project development activities, as well as ongoing support, to drive more successful infrastructure project delivery

We are focused on growing our sustainable infrastructure programme focus and large scale transformation delivery across our wide range of clients within a variety of sectors, including Government, Transport, Power & Utilities, Oil & Gas and Telecommunications. We want people who are passionate about sustainability and climate change and who are keen to help clients realise decarbonization and energy transition ambitions.

We are looking to grow our overall presence across the infrastructure sector and be involved in the design, development, and delivery of significant programmes under the recently published National Infrastructure Strategy, and also the Ten Point Green Energy Plan for a Green Industrial Revolution.

Key Responsibilities

Business Analysts Iinteracts with business stakeholders and evaluates business models, processes and operations to gather, understand and analyze business requirements, and translates business requirements into technical specifications. Collaborates with technical teams (e.g., architects) to design and deliver system architecture solutions, configure solutions and set up systems. Analyzes newly implemented solutions / technology to verify they are meeting business requirements.

  • Translates complex application ideas and concepts into a functional design blueprint and plan
  • Establishes key design principles to guide the further definition and detailing of a functional design blueprint
  • Leads the functional design of highly complex applications
  • Evaluates multiple functional design options, so as to select the one which best meets business, user and functional requirements
  • Justifies functional design elements to the end user / stakeholders
  • Tests the effectiveness of functional design and ensures that business requirements are fully met
  • Manages the compliance of functional design processes and standards with business objectives and requirements
  • Resolves moderate to high complexity issues that occur during the functional design process
  • Coaches team members on their roles and responsibilities in relation to functional design
  • Reviews design documentation produced
  • Verifies through different testing practices (ex. UAT) to validate the solutions meet the functional specifications and proposes credible suggestions to effectively resolve business challenges
  • Demonstrate and supports Business Architecture & Analysis (BAA) community on knowledge base to elevate business analysis competencies

Skills and attributes for success

  • Ability to plan, implement and apply business analysis knowledge areas to scope work effort and capture business requirements for further analysis, and help to prioritize features to produce required business outcomes
  • Experienced in developing technical requirements and specifications, including knowledge of software development methodologies and reporting tools
  • Good interpersonal and communication skill (written and verbal) – able to identify, articulate and present business situation, options and benefits
  • Familiar with value propositions incorporating broader enterprise view of the business operations, encompassing functional analysis, workflow analysis, impact analysis (organization, cost) and risk analysis
  • Experience in conducting functional walkthroughs and addressing FAQs to integrate solution into business activities
  • Ability to engage and collaborate in diverse settings of people
  • A sense of urgency, decisiveness, and ability to work well under pressure
  • Ability to listen and to think independently, and be a curious and creative person
  • Familiarity with industry based business analysis knowledge areas including business process modelling and notation
  • Broad understanding of IT Services, including service offerings, technical standards and policies, technical and business strategies

To qualify for the role, you must have

  • Minimum 5 years of experience with significant role interacting with business to define business operations, workflows and technology solutions
  • Have some experience in consulting services with consistent record to creatively assist client with their business challenges and objectives
  • Have shown experience of one or more industries or sectors, applying business analysis core knowledge areas with broad knowledge of current and new technologies
  • Have experience in Agile framework participating directly in Agile practices and producing common artifacts
  • Strong confirmed experience in either an internal or external business analysis role, or similar, evidenced by adding significant business value through research, challenging the status quo where appropriate, supplying material improvement ideas and developing/communicating full business cases
  • Good technical knowledge and experience in applying business analysis skills, delivering IT solutions, providing comprehensive understanding of business requirements
  • A self-starter, independent-thinker, curious and creative person with ambition and passion
  • Innovative thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills.
