Installation & Broadband Technician

Position Purpose:

The Installation & Broadband Technician assists in all stages of communication construction and installations including heavy equipment operation, fiber splicing, terminating and maintaining fiber optic cable and outside plant (OSP). Duties also include locating facilities in response to Iowa One Call requests. Technician will install or repair communications equipment which may include, but is not limited to, residential and business equipment wiring for services such as phone, digital TV, data installations, home networking and WiFi.

Responsibilities:

  • Verify and terminate fiber to the customer premise and connects OSP distribution fibers to Central Office Equipment.
  • Install all types telephone, video and high speed data applications, including fishing wires within walls.
  • Participation in “On Call” coverage rotation.

Education / Experience:

  • High school diploma required. Experience or training in telecommunications plant operations would be beneficial although not required.
  • Understanding of basic electronics, digital technology and preventative maintenance procedures.
  • Understanding of home and small business networking installation and operation is a plus.
  • Knowledge of LAN/WAN design in addition to skills in operating personal computer/laptop, smart phone and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
  • Knowledge of Industry wiring standards for RJ11 & RJ45 terminations.

Other Requirements:

Must be able to perform physical work for extended periods. Must be able to lift, handle and carry a 70-pound 24 foot extension ladder or other objects. Must be able to work at heights up to 24 feet. Must have the ability to work in small confined spaces. Be able to operate various types of equipment. Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • This work is performed under both inside and outside environmental conditions with exposure to extreme cold and heat.
  • Must possess a valid state driver’s license and have a clean driving record.
  • Accept responsibility to respond to irregular working hours and operate under stressful and pressure conditions in an efficient manner, while maintaining attention to detail and ability to work independently and function as a team player.
  • Work effectively and professionally with customers and the general public with a clean, well groomed appearance.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $17.00 – $23.00 per hour
