We are currently recruiting for a Systems Administrator with a MS-SQL Database Management skills to work at our headquarters in Ottawa, ON.
What you will be doing…
The incumbent will work within the Commissionaires Ottawa IT & Telecom team to manage and administer numerous MS-SQL databases as well as participate in different initiatives that includes the implementation of a new applications or the upgrade of obsolete infrastructure. Some of your responsibilities include… The incumbent will have extensive knowledge and experience with MS-SQL administration within a VM environment. The candidate selected will assist end users in a variety of tasks including monitoring the ongoing operation of the MS-SQL databases and providing reports, identifying problems and implementing corrective actions as needed. Other duties may include:

  • Communicating and collaborating effectively with staff of varying technical expertise
  • Managing backups, restores, recovery models, DBCC commands, and database mirroring
  • Working on indexes, performing integrity checks, configuration, and patching
  • Creating, maintaining and refreshing instances and databases for development and production environments
  • Performing the following task in SQL: stored procedures, functions, views, user Profiles, data dictionaries and data integrity test
  • Writing SQL expressions in SSRS and fine tuning the reports including drill through and drill down reports using SSRS
  • Creating and managing database objects such as tables and views

You’re a good fit if…

  • You have a Diploma in Information Technology support, Computer Science, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • You have at least three (3) years of experience in a similar role within the last five (5) years
  • You are customer service focused, including the ability to understand and troubleshoot end user issues and provide simplified explanations of complex processes
  • You possess strong analytical, problem-solving and quick decision-making skills
  • You possess exceptional attention to details and high degree of accuracy
  • You have excellent organizational and time-management skills with the ability to effectively prioritize work requests, multitask, and adapt quickly to changing priorities
  • You are able to maintain confidential information and demonstrate exceptional discretion

Your must-haves:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience with MS-SQL Server as a Database Administrator
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience with Windows Server in a VM environment
  • Proven experience in troubleshooting issues such as performance, blocking/deadlocking, replication, and connectivity issues
  • Previous experience in using, SQL profiler, and/or other monitoring and troubleshooting tools to conduct performance monitoring and query optimization
  • Previous experience supporting a 24/7 environment and provide after hours on-call support for critical database issues
  • Excellent English verbal and technical writing skills; French would be an asset
  • A Level II (SECRET) Government of Canada security clearance (or the able to obtain one)

Good to have:
Experience with project management for network-related undertakings, including clear capture of business requirements, provision of functional deliverables, milestone planning, and project post-mortems
