Cyber Transport Specialist (CT)

The Cyber Transport Specialist is an integral member of the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) Mission Assurance/Vulnerability Assessment Team. As such, they assess the survivability of critical U.S. and allied national/theater mission systems, networks, architectures, infrastructures, and assets. The Assessment teams aim to ensure continuity to critical DoD missions and infrastructure by assessing the vulnerabilities and survivability against a broad spectrum of threats including accidents, natural disasters, technological failure, cyber-attacks, terrorists/Nation-state actors, radio frequency (RF) weapons, sabotage, and weapons of mass destruction (WMD).

Assessment teams may deploy to high threat but permissive environments anywhere in the world. CONUS and OCONUS travel required up to 33% of the time for durations of up to two weeks per trip.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Agnostic of threat, the CT will review and assess all cyber-related issues for networks, systems, and applications supporting mission-critical operations in the following areas:
  • Review and assess the telecommunications infrastructure that supports the customer’s missions, and any facilities and organizations that support, to determine the mission survivability of an organization and its supporting facilities to include equipment and routing, from a communications perspective, and their ability to complete all assigned missions from a communications perspective
  • Identify all aspects of communications-related vulnerabilities, increase the customer’s awareness of potential vulnerabilities and impacts of communications on mission execution capability, and provide recommendations to mitigate or eliminate identified vulnerabilities


EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Possess Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or other Telecommunications-related technical discipline; commensurate operational experience may be substituted for degree requirements
  • Possess 3-5 years operational experience in the military, other Federal Government, or comparable civilian position in Cyber transport operations
  • Previous assessment experience desired


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Broad knowledge and working-level operational experience with commonly used DoD data and voice networks and transmission systems
  • Extensive knowledge with configuration, operation, and management of the Defense Information Systems Network (DISN) and other DoD and Commercial terrestrial and satellite communications systems and networks
  • Broad experience in general military command and control operations and support of DoD C4I systems including identifying critical mission systems, their vulnerabilities, and the impact of broader strategic, operational, and tactical implications on higher DoD or National level missions
  • Demonstrate current knowledge of and familiarity with the following:
  • Fiber optic distribution systems
  • Optical transport networks
  • SONET/SDH, ATM, IP, and TDM protocols, equipment and networks
  • Encryptions systems
  • DISN, DSN, DRSN, DMS SIPRNet, NIPRNet, JWICS, DSCS, Milstar, AFSCN, GMD, GPS, cellular, Microwave, and various other DoD and commercial architectures and SATCOM systems
  • Working with Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA)
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Possess expert knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio) to prepare presentations, reports, and white papers

Must be able to obtain, maintain and/or currently possess a security clearance.
