Radio/Microwave Field Technician

Job Responsibilities:

· Respond to corrective network problems, perform effective and efficient problem analysis

· Support capital build and network expansion by performing coordination, installation, and commissioning duties

· Rapid troubleshooting, diagnosis and repair of equipment to ensure service restoral objectives are met

· Coordination with other technicians and departments as required to maintain service levels

· Plan and implement preventive maintenance routines to ensure network standards of performance are met

· Perform cutovers and upgrades on the network as directed by work orders

· Maintain updated site records and documentation on site and in online systems

· Perform acceptance tests and inspections on newly installed sites and equipment

· Develop extensive knowledge of key quality service indicators in geographic area of responsibility

· Participate in retune activities associated with network optimization and build activities

· Maintain inventory of required spare parts and perform regular audits to ensure availability of spares

· Prompt completion of administrative reporting of mileage, timesheets, expenses, equipment inventories

· Maintain a safe work environment, meeting all health and safety requirements

· Comply with all health and safety policies, procedures, training and documentation

· Perform call testing functions, including cellular coverage, hand-off, RSSI, throughput, dropped calls checks

· Locate and isolate sources of radio interference and conduct analysis and mitigation

· Maintain detailed, accurate records, notes and documentation for all activities and areas of responsibility

· Perform shift work, overtime, and 24 hour on-call support on a regular rotational basis.

Experience and Education:

· 1 – 3 years of telecommunications experience

· Diploma or certificate in telecommunications from a recognized technical institute

· Transmission experience with microwave, optical fiber, SONET and TCP/IP protocols

· Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision

· Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities

· Demonstrated investigative, problem solving, analysis and troubleshooting skills

· Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written

· Ability to work standby, call out, overtime and shift work required on a regular basis

· Ability to travel and work at various sites as required

· Must possess a valid (BC/Alberta/Saskatchewan) driver’s licence
· Must submit driver’s transcripts with an exemplary driving record

Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 12 months

Salary: $20.00-$35.00 per hour

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • On call

  • Vancouver, BC: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

Education:

  • DCS / DEC (preferred)

Experience:

  • Radio and Microwave: 1 year (required)
  • Wireless Telecommunications: 1 year (required)

  • Day Shift (preferred)
  • Night Shift (preferred)
  • Overnight Shift (preferred)
