JOB SUMMARY
The overall purpose of this position is to perform preventative maintenance routines at customer sites while acting as customer service and an advocate of the company. This employee is responsible for fiber splicing, fixed wireless installations, and the troubleshooting of DSL internet. It is also the duty of this employee to perform the various tasks, duties, and responsibilities as described below.
TASKS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform preventative maintenance routines at customer sites
- Perform basic fiber light level checks
- The ability to climb towers and perform fixed wireless installs
- Understand basic telecommunications cabling
- Install, test, and maintain cable pairs
- Make, install, test, and maintain twisted pair Ethernet
- Recognize and identify wire color codes
- Install and maintain fiber jumpers and splitters
- Test voltage, current and ground. Connect DC and AC powered equipment. Install and maintain UPS’s
- Install, test, and maintain basic internet services- DSL
- installation and troubleshooting of Fiber
- Install, test, and maintain transceivers, ONT’s, and routers
- Operate equipment specific software.
- Interact with various time keeping, dispatch, backup, and documentation systems
- Install, turn-up, test and maintain FTTX nodes.
- Install, turn-up, test, and maintain Metro Ethernet nodes.
- Understand basic IP Networking
- Perform basic configuration of IP devices.
- Write and submit service orders through the ticketing and keep the tickets updated
- Read and understand Planning Guides and install, troubleshoot, and repair services based on that documentation.
- Serves as Subject Matter Expert on FTTH, MetroE, FTTXS, DSL, DS-1 and Special Circuits.
- Knowledge of GPON systems and capable of supporting troubleshooting with Lingo Networks NOC and support to isolate and rectify system issues.
- Perform basic fiber OTDR test.
- Perform Preventive Maintenance on equipment located at Remote and CO locations
- Participates in new equipment and technology familiarization efforts.
- All other tasks and duties as assigned.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
- License: Valid state driver’s license
- Education: High School Degree or GED is required and Associates Degree in electronics and/or networking is preferred.
- Experience: Five years of past experience is preferred.
- Knowledge: Working knowledge of electricity, basic telecommunications and telecommunications cabling, Microsoft Word and Excel, basic serial and IP communications packages, FTTX services,
- Skills: Listening skills, problem analysis, problem solving, verbal and written communication skills, advanced skills in fiber break/fix, and advanced networking skills including core router deployment, testing, and tune up.
- Abilities: English language comprehension and expression, stress tolerance, adaptability, problem sensitivity, ability to climb utility poles, carry and handle extension ladders, ability to use step ladders, ability to climb towers, ability to work with power tools, and the ability to work with limited supervision. Ability to operate a computer. Dexterity to effectively use hand tools
JOB CONTEXT: Even and uneven terrain in all types of weather conditions, attics, crawl spaces, confined areas, and aloft working conditions.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Standing for extended periods of time, sitting for extended periods of time, walking, bending, kneeling, pulling, pushing, climbing and the ability to lift 50 lbs. and transport a minimum of 50 feet.
