JOB DESCRIPTION
Duties:

  • Reporting to the Manager Telecom, Protection & Control this role will be responsible for:

  • Leading a team of M&P and MoveUp employees with primary responsibility for managing the

telecommunication Field Area Network (FAN) for the 2M smart meters across the province.

  • Ensures the Field Area Network for Smart Meters delivers on intended business outcomes and

service delivery metrics and targets, now and into the future

  • Leads the planning, engineering, business performance, asset management, project delivery,

process stewardship & quality assurance functions to support Field Area Network (FAN) objective

of operational excellence

  • Establishes and maintains effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders to

ensure Smart Metering telecom projects and programs are carried out smoothly and any

technical, business and safety issues are addressed promptly while maintaining high levels of

customer/client satisfaction.

  • Influences decision-making and negotiates with internal and external stakeholders to safeguard

BC Hydro and ratepayer interests as it pertains to the Smart metering infrastructure,

Qualifications:

  • An undergraduate degree
  • Minimum of 10+ years of related experience of in the utility industry and/or the

telecommunications industry

  • Demonstrated experience leading teams
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Knowledge and understanding of:
  • Smart metering systems and/or Telecommunications
  • Asset Management practices
  • Financial management and strategic planning
  • Procurement and contract management
  • Project delivery
  • Deployment and operations
  • The ability to:
  • Lead, manage, and coach/mentor a team consisting of engineers, unionized staff and

contractors

  • Think conceptually, anticipate, and assess complex issues, and balance competing priorities to

reach optimal decisions.

  • Provide leadership and advice regarding the effective planning and management of asset

maintenance and sustainment strategies.

  • Work collaboratively and cooperatively within the team and with cross functional teams on

common objectives and outcomes.

  • Manage time and resources effectively in order to reduce costs, improve benefits and achieve

required results.

  • Demonstrates:
  • Well-developed planning, organizational, project management, analytical, problem solving and

decision-making skills.

  • Well-developed oral and written communication, presentation, facilitation, leadership, change

management, relationship management and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong business and operational acumen with ability to champion change.
  • Ability to identify and drive business improvement initiatives as needed.
  • Proven capability to influence actions across non-direct reporting lines.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Flexible work model role definitions

Our four role types identify the degree of flexibility an employee could have to work from home

based on the type of work they do. The flexibility for an individual job is up to the manager for

each position and the operational requirements. Employees also have the right to work full-time

from the office if they prefer. All of our roles require at least some in-person time.

IBEW/Field – No option to work from home

Resident – Works primarily (4+ days per week) in the office.

Hybrid – May be able to work from home up to 3 days per week.

Remote – Works from home 4+ days per week
