As the Network Technician, you will build and maintain reliable Layer 1 and 2 network infrastructures on campus to host equipment that is used daily to monitor safety and security and to provide students, faculty and staff with reliable network connectivity. Texas A&M is designing and developing a next generation enterprise network which will provide opportunity for professional growth as you gain hands-on experience with the latest technology.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
  • Associates degree or equivalent technical school certification in electronics or telecommunications, or any combination of education and experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Exposure to various operating systems (MAC OS, Windows)
  • Knowledge of network architecture and protocols, and office productivity software
  • Understanding of building and construction codes
  • If you’re a Bicsi Installer, that would be a plus
Responsibilities:
  • Network Technical Support – Assists in the installation of unshielded twisted pair cable and fiber optic cables to required standards and tests and certifies network to required installation standards using various low voltage and light-source cabling test equipment. Completes light carpentry and mechanical duties and maintains communications utilizing radios. Assists in field troubleshooting of data communications networks.
  • Administrative and Customer Support – Assists in basic microcomputer operations and configuration duties. Assists in the use of circuit records, network commands, and the utilization of inventory databases. Assists in the maintenance of documentation of installation activities and network connections.
  • Professional Development – Participates in training and professional development sessions. Performs other duties as assigned.
