Optical Test Engineer (REMOTE)

Actalent is looking for a Software Test Engineer to help support one of our largest telecommunication clients here in Ottawa. This will be a 12-month contract with the possibility to be fully remote.

Description:

Our client is looking for Software Test Engineers with Python Automation and Optical Network (OTN) protocol or Telecommunications Product network test to develop a highly reliable DCO optical control firmware for new product development of the Optical Line Card system product line. The hired Firmware DVT engineer will work on multiple tasks in a dynamic engineering environment: Develop a test plan required, automate tests via Python script, and integrate test scripts with real HW/FW.

Duties will include but are not limited to:

1) Mainly responsible for the manual/auto testing of our clients Optical Transport System (Telecommunication Network Element)

2) According to the system requirement document, design test plans & procedures for development verification test of optical control firmware functionalities, 100G/400G/OTU4 client interface, and FW robustness.

3) Develop auto-test script using Python, experienced with JIRA, bitbucket, and git operations. Familiar with Jenkins configuration

4) Integrate auto-test script with real HW and FW

5) Evaluate and analyze test results from log file to report bugs via JIRA

6) Provide daily sanity and release regression test report

Skills:

1) Software Tester or Firmware Tester or Design Verification Test (DVT) Engineer with 5+ years of experience

2) Python Scripting

3) Software test on any of the following: L1/L2 NE (Network Element) OR OTN (Optical Transport Network) OR Coherent Optics (ACO/DCO)/Line card optics

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

• Understand telecommunication protocol, such as OTN (Optical Transport Network) or SONET/SDH
• A minimum 5+ years of hands-on auto-test experience in python programming
• Excellent experience in software and/or firmware DVT
• Good knowledge of optoelectronic devices such as optic transceiver/client optics, ACO, DCO, and TROSA is preferred.
• Testing experience of client optics OTN service will be a plus
• Excellent communication, analytical and troubleshooting skills
• Education: Bachelor in Electrical/Computer Engineering, or equivalent Experience required
