DESCRIPTION
The OSP Fielder provides support engineering services through the detailed collection of information from the job site. This position requires a working level of knowledge in all technical aspects of OSP fiber and copper networks. The successful candidate is responsible for identifying the existing field design and layout of the OSP (Outside Plant) telecommunications network to include aerial, buried and underground fiber network design and layout.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
- Identify and document detailed information concerning the equipment on-site within the telecommunications infrastructure including the type of equipment, identification markers, manufacturer, and current condition
- Verify accurate measurements of the spans between the existing utility structures and facilities in the field
- Identify power and communication facilities and ownership on utility poles
- Deliver detailed field notes and photographs as required by the engineering team
- Identification of any potential issues with the equipment or its housing
- Ability to read and understand maps, plats, and layout drawings
- Be able to effectively utilize tools, such as measuring wheels, range finders, handheld tablets, and relevant software
- Capability of managing own workload and prioritizing multiple field engineering assignments
- Negotiate and execute building or other access agreements
- Communicate with property owners as necessary concerning proper access to any equipment
QUALIFICATIONS
- 2+ years of experience in fiber optic/telecommunications/telecom construction industry preferred though not required
- Training provided to otherwise qualified candidates with complimentary experience
- Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation with an acceptable driving record
- Good organizational, written, and verbal communication skills
- Ability to learn new technical systems and tools
- Ability to resolve problems following standard practices, using judgment within defined policies and guidelines
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Ability to work outdoors 90% of the time
- Familiar with GIS (Geographic Information Systems), ESRI, and shapefile functionality (a plus)
- Basic knowledge of outside plant activities such as Fiber Cable Design, Pole Line Construction and Conduit System design (with training)
- Ability to read and understand as built prints, and be able to identify conflicts with existing outside plant facilities, select routing of lines and equipment required for projects (with training)
- Experience in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, Google Earth, Dropbox and Bluebeam Revu (with training)
Job Type: Contract
Pay: $1,500.00 – $3,000.00 per week
