Metronet OSP Rotational Engineering Program

The OSP Rotational Engineering Program was developed with the goal of bringing in recent Engineering, Technology and Business graduates of various disciplines to the Metronet Family. Our goal is to develop future leaders. The program is based around 4 rotations and has a duration of 18 months. Associates will be exposed to various elements of design, pole engineering and permitting, outside plant aerial and underground construction standards, safety standards, materials forecasting, warehouse management and local permitting and project scheduling. In summary, Associates will understand the Metronet process from the initial design phases through implementation in the field.

As mentioned earlier, this is an 18 month program consisting of 4 rotations. The first two rotations are 3 months in length with the final two rotations at 6 months each. The following are the 4 rotations:

1st Rotation is in Design Engineering. This is a 3 month rotation where Associates will be exposed but not be limited to the following:

  • Network design including cost elements
  • Fiber design, engineering and splicing
  • As-builts

2nd Rotation is in Pole Engineering and Pole Permitting, specialty permitting and OSP Construction support. This is a 3 month rotation where Associates will be exposed but not limited to the following:

  • Pole Engineering
  • Pole Engineering Quality Control processes
  • Pole Permitting and processes
  • Specialty permitting (process for requesting DOT, RR, DNR, etc)
  • OSP Support team role within Metronet and Introduction to ticketing.

3rd Rotation is job shadowing Outside Plant Engineers. This is a 6 month rotation where Associates will be deployed to a market and will be exposed but not limited to the following:

  • Construction standards and safety protocols for Underground construction. This is a 3 month period.
  • Construction standards and safety protocols for Aerial Construction. This is a 3 month period.
  • How to perform safety audits on construction crews
  • How to interpret designs and implement them
  • How to deal with field deviations
  • How to complete and submit as-builts

4th Rotation is job shadowing a Project Controls Manager (PCM). This is a 6 month rotation where Associates will be deployed to a market and will be exposed but not limited to the following:

  • Materials forecasting and procurement
  • Inventory and Warehouse management including management of warehouse Associates
  • Local permitting
  • Interactions with home owners and our customer communication ticketing system.
  • Weekly production reporting
  • Project forecasting and scheduling

The goal of this program as referenced earlier is to groom recent Engineering, Technology and Business graduates to be future leaders at Metronet. As our business continues to grow and we expand into more markets and operating territories, we expect these Associates to play a major role in our leadership in the field. This program will provide the solid foundation for them to build upon as they grow with Metronet.
