Green Planet 21 Copper Cable Journeyman Splicer
Green Planet 21 Utility Services is a major telecommunications company providing
copper outside plant services and network decommissioning for telecommunications companies throughout the world. We are looking for copper splicers – huge plus if you have truck/tools.
Responsibilities:
- Perform tasks of auditing, decommissioning, compressing and rerouting traffic on copper cables.
- Locate, trace, and inventory potential cables for extraction.
- Analyze all existing copper cables, Exchange (Trunk) and Feeder, on Frames and in vaults and manholes. Cable-by-cable inspection and audit of jumpers present on the frames.
- Calculate the initial field lengths of all frame cables.
- Document any abandoned & cut cables and cable consolidation in vaults and manholes.
- Execute Decommission Designs without interrupting the active Telco Network. Prepare sequence of tasks and splice function requirements.
- Create material list requirements.
- Self-supervise all operations to ensure all tasks are completed in accordance decommissioning designs and direction provided by Decommissioning Project Manager.
- Assure all new traffic assignments are pretested before transfers are engaged.
- Coordinate and document design changes requiring Engineered redesigns due to variable field conditions.
- Coordinate removal of air pressure from Target Cable(s) with Telco’s Air Technician.
- Assure all new traffic assignments in the field and in the CO are properly tagged and redlined in the as-built plans.
- Safely access manholes and handholes to complete assigned underground tasks.
- Safely operate and use bucket truck to complete assigned aerial tasks (potentially climb poles).
- Field train and supervise the work of other Splicers when directed by Decommissioning Project Manager.
- Complete daily production reports, mark-up plans, keep track of work hours, complete redline and as-built plans.
- Reconcile all issued parts and materials on a daily basis to ensure accurate material usage counts.
- Work independently and in teams.
Experience:
- Journeyman splicer: copper cable maintenance and end work: multiple years of experience.
- Must be able to read and execute from blueprints and/or wire diagrams.
- Have thorough knowledge of telecommunications network structure.
- Ability to distinguish colors.
- Experienced in: Transfer of Alarms & circuit T1s using the proper test equipment.
- Testing repeaters and Load coils, and conditioning pairs from end-to-end for circuits.
- Working with paper, pic, gel and lead sheathed cables.
- Air pressure measurement and adjustment: right tools very important.
- Placing & transferring transducers.
- Using all types of splicing materials.
- Working in CO, Vaults, cross connects, terminal, manholes, handholes & preform cases.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Certified pole climber or capable of demonstrating proficiency as a pole climber.
- Capable of operating a bucket truck.
- Experience in demanding work environments where exceeding established production targets is expected without compromising safety of the public, crew, customer employees, and customer’s active telecommunications network.
- Prior safety training in working in aerial and underground telecommunication networks.
- Demonstrated ability to work safely and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Equipment Requirements:
- Truck and tools sufficient for work in manholes, aerial, Central Office and Termination locations
- Equipment requirements include, but are not limited to: Test equipment 965 Dynatel or JDSU.
- Throwmaster 107, MS2 splice machine, air regulators (2).
- Detailed equipment list will be provided and inventoried by Decommissioning Project Manager.
Physical Demands:
- Able to lift 50 lbs. and open all sizes of telecom manhole covers.
- Available to work shift work; night shift, day shift, and swing shift.
- Exposure to confined spaces, extreme temperatures and humidity.
- Possible exposure and handling of lead cable which may require the use of PPE Equipment.
- Able to safely climb ladders into and out of manholes multiple times per day with heavy loads of equipment.
- Capable of demonstrating proficiency as a pole climber.
- Capable of operating a bucket truck.
Work Environment:
- Must be willing to travel to job sites throughout the world for extended stay assignments for projects lasting up to 6 months.
- Outside Field work in manholes and on poles throughout all type of weather conditions.
Other Requirements:
- Passing Background Checks and Drug Testing before and during employment.
Job Types: Full-time, Contract
Pay: $45.00 – $49.00 per hour
Schedule:
- 8 hour shift
- Monday to Friday
Supplemental pay types:
- Bonus pay
