The OSP Coax Technician will assist in the installation of telecommunication cables and apparatuses to support the Construction Team.
This position is based out of our Calgary office and has a daily start time of 7am**
Responsibilities:

  • Terminate, test and activate – aerial, burial and underground, on both newly placed and existing cables
  • Analyze test results and have the ability to troubleshoot and correct any faults or defects
  • Interpret and understand placing and coax termination work plans
  • Read and interpret work plans or job specifications to execute all work assigned safely and in accordance to the Company’s Health and Safety policy
  • Work outdoors in various conditions to place copper, coax or fiber optic telecommunication cables
  • Climb poles, ladders and a variety of construction equipment to assist in the installation of telecommunication cables and apparatuses
  • Clean and maintain tools and equipment
  • Accurately record and report project progress to the appropriate supervisory person and communicate any issues or expected delays
  • Work at heights up to and exceeding 30 feet
  • Occasional out of town work is required
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or relevant work experience
  • Holds a valid Class 5 license
  • Minimum 1-3 years’ of Coax experience
  • Fiber experience is an asset
  • Able to complete the necessary training for working at heights and confined space, pass the corresponding examinations and receive a client authorization number as required
  • Able to lift up to 80 lbs
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Ability to interpret placing and splicing plans
  • Competency in TDR and other testing protocol
  • Good communication skills with the ability to work independently or in a team
  • Must be able to speak, read and write English
  • Demonstrated commitment to health and safety and willing to receive applicable Health and Safety training as per legislative and job requirements
  • Must be able to provide a clear criminal record check and a clean driver’s abstract

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $22.00-$25.00 per hour

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift

  • Calgary, AB: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

Experience:

  • Coax: 1 year (required)

Licence/Certification:

  • Class 5 Licence (required)
