| Position Summary | Governors State University is seeking to hire a Police Telecommunicator to receive incoming calls for police and security services, dispatches officers as appropriate, and monitors police radio alarms. Documents police and security service requests in an electronic records management and dispatch system. Operates National Crime Information Center (NCIC) console, a computer-aided mobile dispatch system, and an interoperable radio console. Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Receives calls concerning crimes, emergencies, and other requests for police assistance; monitors and responds to 911 calls from the University system, as well as from campus “Blue Light” emergency telephones. 2. Operates a National Crime Information Center (NCIC) console, a computer-aided mobile dispatch (CAD) system, and a Zetron interoperable radio console. 3. Monitors fire and burglar alarms and alarm systems for all university buildings. 4. Broadcasts orders to patrol officers in the vicinity to investigate complaints or request when appropriate; relays instructions or questions from remote units. 5. Coordinates departmental paging in the event of a campus emergency. 6. Relays radio and telephone messages between police officers and the community. 7. Performs receptionist duties; responds to questions from walk-ins and telephone traffic. 8. Controls access to Police Department secured areas; monitors the department’s closed-circuit camera and intercom systems. 9. Performs various clerical duties, including completing the electronic dispatch log and filing police reports. 10. Serves as clearing house for University-wide emergency call lists. 11. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. Salary Range: $18.74 per hour. (This is an unionized position).
