The Department of Film, Media and Cultural Studies at Birkbeck seeks a part-time Research Assistant to carry out data collection in support of a funded research project. This project seeks to better understand the impact of digital technologies of communication on media ownership across borders.

You will:

  • Collect and input data on revenues, ownership and other market indicators across the UK media and telecoms industries, in accordance with a standardised template.
  • Attend and participate in meetings with the co-investigator as well as periodic meetings and workshops convened by the host institution in Canada (Carleton University)
  • Fulfil other basic research tasks as defined by the project co-investigator

This role is ideally suited to a recent graduate or postgraduate student. You will have computer proficiency in standard packages (e.g. word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail and internet use) as well as some familiarity with, and interest in media industry metrics and media market analysis.

Remuneration:

Payment is based on an hourly rate depending on length of continuous service with the College (starting rate £18.82 per hour inclusive of pro-rata London Allowance and holiday pay) for contact hours worked. This hourly rate is based on the starting point of Grade 6, spine point 26 (£34,343 rising to £39,173 per annum).
