Job Title: Microwave Network Engineer

Location: Akron, OH, Reading/Greensburg, PA or Holmdel, NJ (100% Remote)

DIRECT-HIRE

The Microwave Network Engineer will join our WAN Team. This team is a 24×7 engineering and operations group responsible the private wide area network consisting of Microwave, DWDM, and MPLS transport networks. The Team is responsible for the architecture, engineering, implementation, operation, maintenance, reliability, and licensing/regulatory compliance of the RF/ elements that comprise it. Position Requirements:

• 4+ years of experience engineering, installation and support of Microwave, RF networks
• Experience supporting or deploying RF networks
• Point to Point microwave back haul
• In-depth experience of routing protocol, segment routing, and/or EVPN
• Can lead more advanced networks (upgrades, refreshes, new projects)
• Provide operational support for all RF networks within the various Network Engineering and Operations teams
• Prepare and maintain RF equipment specifications
• Ability to Travel

High-Level Position Responsibilities:

• Engineering, implementation, and continued support of new RF systems and services
• Provide recommendations for improvements to Microwave and RF networks, lead changes to implement recommendations, and troubleshoot break-fix situations
• On-going 24×7 support of the optical DWDM, MPLS, and Microwave transport networks (team members participate in a weekly on-call rotation and are expected to respond to pages when it is their week to be on-call)
• Deliver successful project execution including schedule and budget for assigned initiatives
• Effective collaboration with Field Area Network Team, field technicians, vendors, and support contractors
• Can give architecture guidance and suggestions on various router changes.
• Engineering, implementation, and continued support of new RF systems and services
• Provide recommendations for improvements to Microwave and RF networks, lead changes to implement recommendations, and troubleshoot break-fix situations

Nice to have:

• Experience with P25 PLMR, MAS, and/or 700/900 MHz radio networks
• Experience working with certified frequency coordination entities for microwave and PLMR systems.
• Demonstrable knowledge of TCP/IP L3 routing & L2 switching fundamentals
• Understanding of NERC CIP regulations
• Experience with RF interference investigations
• Familiarity of electric utility infrastructure within substations and distribution networks
• Knowledge of Optical Transmission Principles, including standard wavelengths, typical attenuation, optical power factors, anomalies, etc.
• Experience with Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM), Optical Transport Network (OTN) mesh, and Synchronous Optical Network (SONET)
• Ability to identify issues and troubleshoot optical networks
• Experience with network management applications (e.g. Nokia NSP, Cisco Prime and Cisco Transport Controller)

Education:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications or a related field or equivalent work experience in a network engineering or operations environment
