Job Description
CS currently has an opening for a Communications Systems Engineer. This position is part of a team of aviation professionals supporting the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Command, Control, and Communications (C3) office which is responsible for ensuring emergency operations are maintained. If disruptions, such as national emergencies, natural disasters, or equipment malfunctions occur, the C3 office is chartered with restoring the communication services expeditiously. This is an Emergency Essential Position – May be Required to respond to outages on short or no notice basis; supporting disaster response requirements. Specific responsibilities of the Communications Systems Engineer include:
– Lead responsible for coordinating all aspects of the C3 Microwave Network
– Plans, Engineers, Coordinates, Installs, Operates, and Maintains the Microwave Network
– Responsive to customer requirements throughout the Network
– Sole Coordinator with partner agencies for site access for Contract personnel, Contractor support persons, engineering, installation, and troubleshooting of C3 equipment.
– Coordinates outages with C3 Team members and IT personnel
– Proactive in the management and maintaining the health of the microwave network
– Troubleshoot the microwave network as necessary, for health of or concerns with location(s)
– Ability to tune, test microwave circuits, filters, amplifiers, detectors, mixers, controlled devices.
– Operate related RF test equipment such as network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, power meters, frequency counters, oscilloscopes, etc.
– Knowledge of network monitoring tools preferred
– Experience with Aviat Microwave Radio Systems
– Meet with vendors for testing and evaluating of vendors’ products.
– Supporting successful new deployments in our Client’s network and installation of required new equipment to existing network.
– Experience with the following Microwave Radios, grouped by manufacturer, is highly desirable:
– Aviat Networks
– Harris Constellation Radios
– TRupoint 5000
– Eclipse IRU600
– Lead for the Emergency Satellite Communications Program
– Maintains the health of the local satellite systems
– Provides guidance and coordinates troubleshooting of systems in the entire network
– Maintains the entire database of Satellite systems and equipment
– Builds Bi-Monthly National Satellite Test Plans
– Conducts Bi-Monthly National Satellite Test Plans, updates database as required
– Troubleshoots returned equipment and evaluates, makes recommendations to management
– Deploys to locations to fix, repair, and or replace entire systems as needed
– Experience with the following Satellite Systems and devices:
– Hughes MSAT G2
– Mitsubishi Fixed Units ST-151/251
– Iridium
– BGAN
– iSatPhone Pro (Inmarsat)
– Member of Communications Support Team (CST)
– Must hold a Class B Commercial Driver’s License or be willing to get one.
– Knowledge of Microsoft Project preferred
Applicantsmust be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Clearance or higher. US citizenship is required.
Educationor Certification Requirements
· Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, Operations Research, Statistics, Engineering, or a related field from an accredited college or university and 15 years of relevant experience.
· An additional 8 years of experience can replace the degree requirement.
