Department Summary
Information Technology Shared Services (ITSS) is a component of The University of North Texas System. The mission of ITSS is simple: to be the best at delivering customer-aligned IT solutions and services. Our services are provided to all member institutions using an IT shared services governance model.

IT Shared Services provides the primary technology used by all campuses to support their operations. These include: shared resources of data centers, computing hardware, software applications, network and voice communications, collaboration and productivity capabilities, central web services, risk management, and security and compliance services. Position Overview
The ITSS-Telecom Services Department at the University of North Texas System is seeking to hire a Telecommunications Analyst I to join our team. This position performs routine telecommunications engineering /analysis work. Work involves analyzing telecommunications systems and billing. Works under moderate supervision with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Minimum Qualifications

Associates degree in related field and three years communications and/or networking experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of principles of computing and communications networks.
  • Use PC architecture and operating systems.
  • Supervisory skills and abilities.
  • Operate a computer keyboard and to install communications hardware.
  • Assimilate, retain, and utilize technical information.
  • Analyze varied courses of action and participate in strategic planning.
  • Work with independence and initiative.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Function responsibly during emergency problem solving situations.
  • Knowledge of safety and security precautions:

o Capability to lift and move items averaging about 60 pounds
o Ability to ascend and descend ladders with tools, cables, equipment, etc.
o Work in confined areas crawlspace, ceilings, etc.
o Work in diverse environmental conditions – hot and cold temperatures inside and outside facilities
o Operate vehicles, power tools, and equipment in a safe manner
o Wear safety gear as needed – steel toe shoes, vests, and protective eye covering
o Attend safety courses as offered

Preferred Qualifications
The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:

  • Billing experience.
  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft

  • Provide support to UNT System and Components

  • Consultation and issue resolutions

  • Analyze communications services and equipment alternatives to recommend best solutions

  • Interact with service providers and communications suppliers to obtain services and equipment to support operations

  • Track and process services and equipment purchases for cost recovery from user departments

o
  • Maintain preventative maintenance programs

o
  • Access and utilize communications equipment and utilize software applications to research, update, and produce electronic media reports

o
  • Process, update, and route work orders

o
  • Troubleshoot issues

o
  • Interact with communications equipment and service providers to identify and procure communications to assure efficient operations.
