Reporting to the Supervising Engineer, Telecommunications Planning & Engineering, this position will be primarily responsible for detailed design, materials procurement, equipment prefabrication and testing, documentation and construction/commissioning support associated with various projects involving expansion or upgrading of the major systems underlying ATCO Electric’s private telecommunications network. Experience in mobile voice communications (P25), VoIP as well in WAN/LAN design in a utility environment an asset. Experience in MPLS, specifically related to NOKIA IP-MPLS technology, is a priority for this role.
Responsibilities:
Projects: For systems projects in the detailed design and field construction/commissioning phases:
- Review and validate previously identified project requirements and proposed scope.
- Prepare Bill of Materials and initiate procurement.
- Prepare and issue construction drawings for equipment pre-fabrication.
- Perform post-prefabrication equipment testing and pre-commissioning.
- Prepare construction drawings for field installation and commissioning.
- Provide technical support to field construction and commissioning personnel.
- Provide ongoing technical support for systems in operation.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Computer Engineering.
- Eligible for P.Eng. registration with APEGA.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, some of which may be in a non-telecom, electric utility environment.
- Knowledge and experience in IP networking is required, and experience with MPLS is desired.
- Experience and expertise with network modeling as well as managing large data sets using databases, scripting, and data management applications would be an asset.
- Strong English language written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work cooperatively and contribute to a team environment.
- Strong organizational skills including ability to self-schedule activities for multiple concurrent projects.
