Position Description
This team is dedicated to the operations and maintenance of the ground systems for NOAA Office of Satellite and Product Operations (OSPO) environmental-monitoring satellite missions. Data from our missions is used in weather forecasting, climate research, forest fire detection, search and rescue, and much more. The system Engineer provide onsite IT support in collaboration with government technical leads. They are instrumental in implementing new directives to build out and configure enterprise tools; leverage those tools to maintain accurate inventory and automate monitoring, alerts, and reports; and cross-train each other so as to provide strong quality assurance and team integration. Responsibilities include:
- Manage all phone changes on the Avaya PBX throughout the NOAA Satellite Operations Facility (NSOF); all Add, Moves, and Changes. (Equipment, Ext, Cabling & Voice Mail). Also, provide phone support for World Weather Building (WWB).
- Provide technical analyses, impact assessments, and technical support for any changes to cable infrastructure throughout NSOF Building.
- Provide technical SOW to competing vendors, acquire vendor quote, and coordinate and oversee new cable installations.
- Design and Coordinate the installation of structure cabling system.
- Maintain the NSOF Cable Plant Database via iTracs Cable Management System.
- Coordinate the Installation and Maintenance of NSOF Communication Circuits.
- Responsible for all Telecommunication System Documentation (As-built, Configuration Diagrams, Cabling Standards).
- Design and Coordinate all PBX Programming enhancement and modifications .
- Develop and provide custom/adhoc PBX/VoiceMail/Call Account Reporting.
- Provide technical and installations support on the NSOF cable plant.
- Install, test, and troubleshoot any cabling issues throughout NSOF building.
Required Skills
3+ years of related technical experience leading to the following:
- Experience with troubleshooting VOIP phone and cabling
- written/verbal communication, problem‐solving and analytical abilities required.
- Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities
- Applicant should be able to work on multiple projects at the same time and be able to handle the pressures of meeting deadlines in a very short window.
- Must be able to pass a background investigation to obtain a security badge to enter the applicable government facility.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field.
Location: Work is to be completed on-site at the NSOF in Suitland, MD.
