Copper Valley Telecom
Copper Valley Telecom is currently seeking a Telecommunications Technician to join our team! This position is based out of our Valdez, Alaska office and is responsible for installation and repair of customer premises equipment, splice fiber cables and cut terminals for new construction. The selected applicant will maintain, expand, replace and repair all facilities required to provide service to customers in this district.
Additionally this position will
- Install drop wires, station protectors, and network interface devices, and perform initial wiring or rewiring for new subscriber systems
- Troubleshoot and maintain Central Office switching systems. Queries system for status reports and trouble isolation
- Maintain and complete records, logs, reports, and as-built documents and forward to appropriate personnel
- Assist other Technical personnel in the performance of their duties when requested
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of OSP facilities, copper and fiber optic cables and conduit systems
- Background and working knowledge of splicing, bonding and grounding of both copper and fiber telecommunications sables in accordance with RUS requirements
- Knowledge of equipment used in construction and maintenance of telephone plant
- Knowledge of electrical circuitry, DC circuitry, ohms law, resistance, capacitance and induction
- Skill in operating an analog or digital colt-ohmmeter, cable locater, cable fault locator, and transmission test sets
- Skill in operating equipment used in construction and maintenance of telecommunications facilities
Education
High School diploma or equivalent plus four years (8,000 hours) of outside plant construction and maintenance experience.

This is a full time, hourly, non-exempt position with an outstanding benefit package which includes health, vision, and dental insurance, 401K matching, and a pension program. This is an IBEW 1547 Union represented position (need not be a current member to apply) and requires satisfactory results of a background check and drug screen (excluding marijuana). Starting wage for this position is $50.26 per hour.
