Technician’s Responsibilities
An FTTH Technician is responsible for installing and repairing network lines in homes, offices, and other structures. The Technician inspects the indoor outlets and outdoor feeder lines to ensure that the residence is ready for connection, connects the location to external fiber connections, runs new lines as needed, and configures television boxes and Internet routers. They must inspect internal phone jacks and wiring, adjust equipment to improve reception, or replace outdated or malfunctioning equipment.
Following the completion of all connections, the FTTH Technician typically checks the customer’s devices to ensure they are functioning correctly. They resolve minor issues and instruct the subscriber on operating the equipment. The FTTH Technician answers any questions the customer may have.
Additionally, an FTTH Technician demonstrates to customers how to use specialized remote controls and digital video recorders (DVRs) if part of the installation. Specific installers are also skilled repair technicians who respond to service calls from individuals experiencing system malfunctions.
Other responsibilities include installing, repairing, and maintaining FTTH facilities, programming and troubleshooting our IPTV system, high-speed data networks, and data products. The employee will also promote the sale of services, educate customers on using their equipment, and perform other duties assigned by their supervisor.
Work Conditions
The installer typically operates a company vehicle equipped with materials necessary for professional installation.
While some work is performed during standard business hours, other work will be performed during early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and holidays to accommodate the customers’ schedules. Due to the possibility of responding to a widespread outage and troubleshooting issues, FTTH Technician’s schedules may include overtime and on-call hours.
Duties are performed indoors and outdoors, and inclement weather can create an uncomfortable work environment. However, the FTTH Technician will spend most of their time indoors, installing or troubleshooting equipment in customers’ homes, offices, or buildings.
